mikesiva 2025-05-29 11:42:57

12.40pm: Looks like a relatively late change to the West Indies XI, with Evin Lewis' number scribbled out on the teamsheet and Jewel Andrew, the teenager from Antigua, a late addition. Justin Greaves will shuffle up to open, if the order submitted is to be believed. No Shamar Joseph, with Jayden Seales preferred.

It’s a nippy, cloudy morning in Birmingham,.

West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field

Jamie Smith and Duckett are at the crease.
Jamie Smith is on strike.
Forde will open the attack

0.1
Forde to Jamie Smith, 1 run, fuller and shapes in from outside off, Smith pushes at it and gets a thick inside edge towards deep square

Narper 2025-05-29 12:05:02

0.5
Forde to Duckett, FOUR, 123 clicks, gently overpitched and outside off. Duckett drives it through extra cover to get going with a boundary

Narper 2025-05-29 12:06:58

Jayden Seales, right-arm medium, comes into the attack
1.1
Jayden Seales to Jamie Smith, no run, 130 clicks, a full delivery that moves in the air and dips on the batter as it thuds onto the boots, beating Smith on the inside edge.

1.3
Jayden Seales to Jamie Smith, FOUR, dropped!! A hard length delivery that shoots up and wobbles away outside off, Smith stays tall and punches at it. Gets an edge that flies to the right of second slip. Greaves the fielder who gets a hand to it, but can't grab it and the ball parries towards the third-man boundary

Narper 2025-05-29 12:09:48

1.4
Jayden Seales to Jamie Smith, no run, a vehement appeal from Seales, and he's burnt a review! This was fuller and angling into the batter, thuds onto the pads. Looked like it was sliding down and the replays show all three stumps in vision as the ball strikes the pads
Review taken for an LBW. A bit tentative from Shai Hope. Was this sliding down leg as well? Yup, going down the leg side. Review lost

1.5
Jayden Seales to Jamie Smith, FOUR, to deep extra cover

I would've thought Alzarri would be a better wicket-taking option with the new ball than Forde: higher pace and outswing.

Alzarri Joseph to Jamie Smith, out Caught by Brandon King!! Out next ball! A short delivery just outside off, Smith pulls it and pulls it off the middle of the bat this time. Arrives quickly onto Brandon King at mid-wicket who takes a sharp reverse cup catch. That ball would have stung her fingers a bit. After a promising start, Jamie Smith departs.

Fuller than a good length and angling across off, Duckett tries swiping it through the on-side, looking to raise the tempo further, but gets a thick leading edge. It flies and seems to be going above the head of Chase but he leaps and grabs it with his right hand

Alzarri Joseph to Jamie Overton, out Caught by Roston Chase!! Such a wonderful catch running back. But a bit too late. That was short, outside off, Jamie Overton looked to pull and got a top-edge. The fielder ran back, back-pedalled, took it by running back. Was an excellent catch. That was a tough one by the fielder. England lose a wicket but on course to topple 400

It is pretty special. Putting in a great performance was special. I enjoyed batting in the middle order. Today was easy when I came in to bat as we were on top. I back myself once am I am in. Dot balls are never good for a batter's mind. It is perfect I get a few boundaries early on. I learnt a lot. I felt the experience was beneficial. I am a better batter than I was two months ago. Virat was great with his experience.

Hope:
We didn't get the early inroads that we were after. You play catch up when you don't pick wickets with the new ball. You gotta back your skills. They were striking at 8 at one stage and we let it slip in the back end. We need to do some work. Some assessment needed. More down to the execution. The bowelrs can execute at the training. This is international cricket, you need to execute at your best. We always had the quality. 400 is a tough task. We didn't start well with the bat either. We needed a good start to chase down 400..

Harry Brook:
That was a very phenomenal performance from the boys. Same thing I have been saying to the press. Just score big runs as a batting unit. Bowl to the dimensions as a bowling unit. As a fielding unit, just stay committed and chase the ball. Four of us got fifty plus and it was a complete performance. I think we got so much power as well. Set the template beautifully. The tempo of the innings was spot on. There was lot of energy on the ball. Mahmood bowled beautifully. Same with Overton. Nice to get the series underway in good fashion.
