Former two-time T20 World Cup champion Samuel Badree noted that the news would be disappointing for all West Indies supporters.
Badree, a former West Indies leg-spinner and a respected voice in Caribbean cricket, expressed his disappointment at the timing. “Very sad news emanating from Nicholas Pooran regarding his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29,”
“Fans around the Caribbean would no doubt be disappointed that they won’t see him in maroon again, including myself. But I respect his decision, which I am sure was a very considered one. The cricketing landscape has become so saturated that decisions like these are becoming more frequent, and with a young family, I can understand the decision, which would allow him more time with them,” Badree stated.
“The most disappointing thing though is that there is a T20 World Cup early next year, and his absence significantly impacts the West Indies team. Who knows, maybe someday he will come out of retirement,” Badree added.
