The culture has gone south. There was a time when my people had so much pride that the last thing they would want is to be pushing and shoving to get free food. I knew people who wouldn't go to any center where the govt. was handing out free food, although they needed it, or "guh a wedden yaad" because they didn't want it to appear that they were "henkering" for food.

Hmmm! KFC braces for ... 50th anniversary brawta deal

KFC has been in Jamaica longer than 50 years. Help me out here, guys... What was Tops in Cross Roads (and I believe in MoBay and Mandeville too)? I personally moved to Town in 1969 and one treat you and your girl would enjoy is some KFC from Tops before or after the show at Carib.

Tops in Mandeville was KFC, I guess the other Tops were as well. It was a treat to go to Mandeville and hope the elders would walk into Tops. Just the same, what I am seeing in Jamaica now regarding KFC is scandalous. Sundays were the day for the best meal of the week, perhaps chicken with rice and peas (plantain if you're lucky) and wash it down with sour sop or carrot juice. Today, Sundays are a trip to KFC.

I can only shake my head in disbelief when I see this display by Jamaicans.
It is not the same country you and I grew up in. The culture is totally different
and depravity seems to be the order of the day.
I would guess most if not all this chicken is also imported too.

the chicken is supposed to be sourced locally, but I would not be surprised about incidents of imported meat, people from the states claim the quality in Jamaica is better than the KFC meals here.

unfortunately, and yes i do say unfortunately, it is apparently the national dish. Sad. It is to go to "hot spot" for teens and young adults in the country areas for sure. mandevillle teens probably don't have the funds the funds to go to Ultimate Dining, so it is kfc. they just put one in Christiania so the spaldings and Christiania folks dont have to go all the way to ville to partake in the national dish. If ever there was a cant miss franchise opportunity in jamaica....

but on a societal level, the moral decay is bad. the tik tok videos of folks pushing in line to get free food and the guy fighting the security guard because he was stopped from cutting the line.

Allow me to agree with you 100% while I add one or two things particular to my case.
-- Sunday rice-and-peas, absolutely (and if is dry gungu, it soak from Satiday night).  Ooh yeah, Sunday comin'
-- Brown-stewed chicken, yes; but alternatively could be roast beef as well.
-- Re "with sour sop or carrot juice", yuh missin' one alternative: beet root. And added to any of them would be Dragon, Mackeson or port wine. ...Served even to me at 7 or 8 y.o.

One of the interviewees say that KFC ah de National Dish!

And he got no push back.

The woman said that 'Uncle colonel was so good to us' .....not colonel sanders...not uncle sam...a new term, uncle sanders.

At first i thought, well food prices so high, or people just love free food. But the local people seem to hold KFC in very high regard.

So how can people who live in Jamaica not be aware of how local people feel about it. These seem a strongly held belief among young people.

And with the comments talking bout Church etc...tells me is old people who share the old view.

More proof how alienated the p3ople like the OP are of local culture...but they want to talk about other people's culture from moons away!

I for one am surprised to find out KFC been in Jamaica that long!

Let me break this to you all as gently as I can - this behavior is not unique to Jamaicans, at least there was no death!

KFC to Jamaicans is like a sales promotion at a Target store is to Americans!

Not justifying the behavior, but people's outlook has changed over the years!

Check the new product releases from Jordan and iPhone in the 'great' USA.

I have never understood the love for that fried crap. I am always pissed when folks ask me to go by KFC. Is a Jamaican habit to eat all this fried stuff, at fast food places and at home.

Then they say diabetes 'run in the family' when what is happening is we grow up with the same lifstyle, leading to the same health issues.

The last time I ate KFC was in 1992. I don’t think I’ve eaten KFC 10 times in my entire life.
I love jerk and pan chicken and both are available.every day of the week. Of course nothing nicer than a good brown stew snapper at Gloria’s.
I suppose the fact that I am a very good cook explains my indifference to dat crap greasy stuff.

Mi hear seh di entire sovereign food court was under KFC siege yesterday.
