WI cricketer accused of sexual assault in Guyana

anthonyp 2025-06-25 10:55:50

This is like the 4th accusation in couple years...

A prominent Guyanese and West Indies cricketer has been accused of sexually assaulting a young woman, with disturbing allegations surfacing online and now under scrutiny by local media and potentially regional cricket authorities.

Screenshots of WhatsApp messages seen by Kaieteur News appear to show the cricketer apologizing for his actions and asking that the matter remain private. In one exchange, he also allegedly offered monetary compensation in an attempt to make amends, which was refused.

Kaieteur News has learned of at least four instances, with one prior incident that was reported to the police, where a statement was taken. However, that matter reportedly did not progress to formal charges and quietly faded from public view.

Kay 2025-06-25 12:53:04

Why get the cricket boards involved at this stage? Isn't this a civil matter which should firstly be firmly dealt with by local law enforcement. After he serve his time then the cricket boards can do whatever they want.

I noticed in the article that attempts to file reports with the Guyana Police Force were unsuccessful. How ridiculous this is?

anthonyp 2025-06-25 13:16:15

This is Guyana you know. Now that it made social media the police will finally take the report. It's how things work here unfortunately.

Kaieteur Sports – There is a monster on the cricket field.

He doesn’t haunt dreams. He walks tall and proud in broad daylight, wearing maroon, representing the West Indies on the global stage.

He’s celebrated, cheered for, idolized. But to the women he has violated, he is not a hero. He is a predator.

This cricketer is Guyanese. And as I write this column, I have heard accounts from no fewer than eleven women, one of them a teenager who allege that they have been sexually assaulted, raped, or subjected to unwanted sexual advances by him.

West Indies Cricketer accused of Sexual Assault in Guyana

By Rawle Toney

Kaieteur Sports – A prominent Guyanese and West Indies cricketer has been accused of sexually assaulting a young woman, with disturbing allegations surfacing online and now under scrutiny by local media and potentially regional cricket authorities.

The allegations have prompted renewed attention to an incident reportedly involving the cricketer and a 24-year-old woman, referred to in this report as Jane Doe to protect her identity.

The alleged victim and her parents spoke to Kaieteur News, and revealed that she has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to file an official report with the Guyana Police Force.

The incident is said to have occurred shortly before the player left Guyana.

Jane Doe claims that she and the cricketer had agreed to go on a date, with clear boundaries set.

However, what began as a casual evening reportedly ended traumatically within the vicinity of her home at Providence, East Bank Demerara.Agricultural funding

She presented what she described as evidence, including photos of injuries allegedly sustained during the incident, as well as messages purportedly from the player expressing remorse.

Screenshots of WhatsApp messages seen by Kaieteur News appear to show the cricketer apologizing for his actions and asking that the matter remain private. In one exchange, he also allegedly offered monetary compensation in an attempt to make amends, which was refused.

This is not the first time the player’s name has been associated with similar allegations.

One sex offender is too much...it's alleged he has done this 11 times, according to reports, and covered it up with high-ranking officials in Guyana.

Let due process play its course innocent until proven guilty

You really feel that will be the case?

OJ was proven innocent yet what happened with him?

This will follow Shamar and he will be labeled as such for the rest of his life no matter what happens legally

There’s no putting the genie back in that bottle.
