As a School child I remember how exciting it was when there was Test Cricket on.

The teacher used to bring a TV and have it on in Class smile

Not to mention everyone had a radio on. These days, they don't even bring cricket on the radio sad

Greetings from Kensington Sir! The weather is fantastic and a nice breeze earlier. The pitch is brown with some grass here and there. I think its a win toss and bat wicket. If bowlers put in the hard yards they will get results.

Narper 2025-06-25 14:21:54

3.4
Shamar Joseph to Sam Konstas, out Lbw!! A chirpy appeal for lbw turned down! Roston Chase has a chat with Shamar Joseph and Shai Hope and sends it upstairs. Height might be a factor. Was a good length ball that seamed in sharply from around off, Sam Konstas was caught in the crease as he tried to keep it out but missed to get struck on the pads. Time for the replays. UltraEdge shows a gap between bat and ball. Over to ball-tracking and it reveals three reds - hitting the top of leg-stump.

Sam Konstas lbw b Shamar Joseph 3(14)

Everyone knows that King cannot catch. Chase should be in the gully. King should be at long leg. Shades of Marlon Samuels dropping the Guptill in the world cup. I remember when I saw that ball in the air I was praying that it would go to anyone but Samuels.

Narper 2025-06-25 14:25:42

3.6
Shamar Joseph to Green, no run, dropped! A back of a length ball outside off, seaming away with a bit of extra bounce, Green pushes at it with hard hands and gets a thick outside edge. Brandon King gets low and it comes at a good height to him as well. He gets his hands to it but it pops out. He misjudged it

Good bowling - crap fielding

Acid 2025-06-25 14:41:37

7.3
Shamar Joseph to Khawaja, 1 run, dropped! A cry of anguish from Shamar Joseph! In the corridor of uncertainty, angled in initially and then straightened to square Khawaja up. He poked at it and got a thick outside edge. Chase at first slip gets low to his right but goes at it with hard hands. The ball pops out.

9.4
Shamar Joseph to Green, out Caught by Justin Greaves!! Shamar Joseph has been rewarded for his consistency! He roars in delight! Was in the corridor of uncertainty, angled in initially and then straightened a bit. Green pushed at it with minimal foot movement and an outside edge was induced.

Green c Justin Greaves b Shamar Joseph 3(21)

PalsofMine 2025-06-25 14:54:02

what is Chase doing in slips. He should be in the gully. That is the problem. There are no natural slippers in that team.

Ah mean whot ah say. Bro our Bajan friends here are complaining and rightly so. They say that CWI is making Barbados look real bad. So I joked with them. I said maybe the players will go to the gym for a workout and none of the equipment will be working.

Narper 2025-06-25 17:21:06

33.1
Justin Greaves to Head, FOUR, stand and deliver. Fuller ball, outside off, inviting the drive and Head obliged. Allowed his hands to take full control and managed to get it easily wide of the man at cover

CricSham 2025-06-25 17:22:47

Greaves beat Khawaja all ends up with that one

WIForever 2025-06-25 17:23:43

Them men settling...1 million runs by lunch tomorrow.

WIForever 2025-06-25 17:32:05

That squirt Travis Head does...stop it. You giving him a free run. He hit that shot about 8 times today.

CricSham 2025-06-25 17:32:44

He is very defensive but maybe that's the instructions given.

Narper 2025-06-25 17:35:36

36.1
Jayden Seales to Khawaja, no run, and dropped! That was a length delivery, outside off, Khawaja flays at it and edges it. The man at gully flew to his right but dropped it. He got both hands to it but the ball didn't stick

Chrissy 2025-06-25 17:36:11

Brandon doesn’t take a half chance

103/3

Conorboy 2025-06-25 17:37:54

The foolishness of team selection, guess they never considered how much the fielding would suffer in their picks.

CricSham 2025-06-25 17:39:37

In reply to WIForever
You know. We get down on the bowlers but you could understand when they give up. I fielded slips throughout my playing days. That was a sitter.

There's an edge and West Indies have finally got rid of Khawaja - it's that man again - Shamar Joseph - not the greatest delivery but he'll not care one bit. Shamar Joseph to Head, no run, has it carried to Shai Hope? He ain't sure, did look like an inside edge and umpire Nitin Menon has asked for the TV replays. Was a full ball wide of off and Head threw his hands on the drive, a definited edge and UltraEdge confirms the same. Now, this looks very interesting, initial replays suggest that the ball might've bounced right into the glove, but umpire Adrian Holdstock asks for several repalys. The camera is zoomed in and it's pretty hazy - ' he says there's no clear replays which suggest that the ball has gone straight into Shai Hope's gloves and the Head gets the benefitr of doubt, much to West Indies's dismay

He stabs at the ball late. Very poor technique to really quick bowlers who move the ball laterally. When he was younger he could get away with it but as you get older, those micro seconds to get the bat in place matters.

Mitchell Starc to Brandon King, FOUR, first runs in Tests for Brandon King. That was fuller, swinging in, Brandon King looked to jam it out and squeezed it out just wide of the sticks for the ball to race past the keeper. Beginner's luck for Brandon King

Mitchell Starc to Brandon King, FOUR, very full, just outside off, looking to shape it away but Brandon King gets a stride out and caresses it wide of the man at mid-off for a four. That was a lovely shot on the up by Brandon King. He has three fours to his credit on debut. He is looking decent in his short stay

Mitchell Starc to Brandon King, FOUR, gets the width and goes after it. That was very wide, very full, outside off, Brandon King threw his bat at it to get it wide of the man at point for a four. That sped away

Was a back of a length delivery, 136.7 kph and Keacy Carty failed to bail out to hand the visitors their third wicket. Massive blow for the hosts as less than 20 minutes were remaining for stumps.

Hazlewood to Warrican, out Bowled!! The nightwatchman doesn't last much. The ball shaped in, hit the top of off for the fourth wicket to go down. Windies losing the plot a little. Australia fighting back late in the day. Warrican tried to cover the line of the delivery but the ball traversed the gap between bat and pad to hit the sticks. Fourth one down. First wicket for Hazlewood. The front foot didn't move forward and that allowed the gap to be created.

Jayden Seales:
It was always pretty special. I had played only once against the Australians before this. To get a fifer on day 1 (of the series) was very special. With the new ball, it was about pitching it a bit fuller. It was a bit slower than they expected (on the pitch), it worked in our favour - they played at ones they didn't need to play at and did so with hard hands (On Australia's batting). Worked out very well for us. (Shamar) Joseph has been special for us. He loves performing against Australia. Made the job easier for us. Back your skills and wait for the bad balls is what the batters would have to look to do tomorrow. There's a bit in it for the bowlers here

Hazlewood to Brandon King, out Bowled!! Oh dear! That's a bad misjudgement and King falls early on Day 2. Relentless bowling from Hazlewood, but that's a poor leave from the debutant. On a good length and angling back with the seam, King didn't account for the inward movement, doesn't cover the off-stump as he shouldered arms. Turns back in horror as he hears the sound of the death rattle, the ball crashing into the stumps and ending a promising knock.

Narps the Aussie attack looks quite ordinary. Its a mental thing because Chase and Hope seemed untroubled. That is a good sign because no matter the situation, Aussie tend to be focused and in the moment. There is a nice breeze here at the Oval and the sun is out. Good day for cricket.

There's some issue with the ball so the umpires have replaced it with a different one. Hazlewood to begin after lunch.

Yardman_83 2025-06-26 16:47:52

Australia's players head back to the middle. Chase and Hope follow them out. The umpires are changing the ball again. This will be the third ball used in 47 overs.

I need to follow up to see if we get the ball changed this often in our turn bowling. I am seeing a bit of a trend where other teams try to get the ball changed when it is not doing much for them. Can anyone say whether we asked to change the ball during Australia's innings?

Cummins to Roston Chase, out Lbw!! Roston Chase has been trapped in front but he reviews straightaway! Umpire Richard Kettleborough had no hesitation to rule it out. Was a back of a length delivery outside off and it shaped in sharply, Roston Chase was caught in the crease as he tried to keep it out but seemed to have been beaten on the inside edge as the ball rapped him on the back pad. Is there an inside edge though? The third umpire is having a look at a few replays as the ball is close to the bat. UltraEdge reveals that there's daylight between bat and ball. Over to ball-tracking and it reveals three reds - it would have crashed into the top of middle. A gritty knock from the Windies skipper comes to an end.

Cummins to Justin Greaves, no run, Australia review for a caught behind. Cummins and Carey feel that there's some bat involved. Was a back of a length ball that angled down leg, Justin Greaves hopped and tried to tuck it across but seems to have missed it. There was a deflection of something as Carey caught it and appealed. Time for the replays. UltraEdge shows that there's a gap between the gloves and the ball. The deflection was off the thigh pad. Australia lose a review

Brerzerk 2025-06-26 17:07:08

Webster to Shai Hope, out Caught by Carey!!

Shai Hope c Carey b Webster 48(91) [4s-5]

Carey has taken a brilliant catch to dismiss Shai Hope. The umpires get together to check whether it has been taken cleanly or not. They refer it upstairs. Third umpire Adrian Holdstock has a look at it. Well, well, it seems that the ball has touched the ground after Carey took the catch

When I visited Europe in 2023, I had the good fortune to attend the fifth day of one of the tests against Australia at Lords.
That was when Stokes scored a brilliant 134 I think.
The chant then was "SAME OLD AUSSIES, ALWAYS CHEATING"
I think that had to do with the Carey controversial run-out of Johnny Bairstow.

Was a full-toss angling down leg, Joseph was shuffling across on the flick and the ball might've grzed the inside edge, onto the front-pad and it then ricochets onto the off-stump. The off-bail falls and the visitors are in sight of a small first innings lead

Lyon to Jayden Seales, out Caught by Webster!! That's a sharp catch and Webster has grabbed it with ease at long-on. West Indies are bowled out for 190. Was a well tossed up delivery outside off and Seales's eyes lit up as he went for the slog-sweep - he did strike it with power, but he ended up dragging it off the thick inside edge, went flat and hard, straight down long-on's throat where Webster completes a fine reverse cupped catch in front of his face.

Shamar Joseph to Sam Konstas, no run, edged and Campbell has put it down, the catching malaise spreading into the second dig and it's Shamar Joseph once again, he must be fuming inside - short of a good length and just outside off, Konstas came down the pitch and pushed with hard hands, gets a thick edge to 3rd slips right, came at a good height and Campbell grabbed at that, the ball bursting through his palm

1.6
Shamar Joseph to Sam Konstas, no run, oh dear! A second catch goes down in the over - Shamar Joseph looks shocked, so does Sammy in the dressing room, it's Greaves who has put it down now, on a good length and just outside off, Konstas presses forward and doesn't cover the angle, thick edge and it went low in front of first slip - Greaves bends forward, has it covered - in and out of his crasp

Alzarri Joseph to Khawaja, out Lbw!! Khawaja has been trapped in front but he takes the review quite quickly. Is height a factor? Was a back of a length ball that seamed in nicely from outside off, Khawaja hopped to keep it out but missed to get hit on the back leg. UltraEdge shows a gap between bat and ball. Over to ball-tracking and hitting is umpire's call - it would have grazed the top of middle-stump. Intiailly, it looked like it can be a bit high but it didn't gain that extra lift off the surface on this occasion.

Was a good length ball that seamed in sharply from a good length on off, Green tried to block it but ended up playing around it to get rapped on the pads. UltraEdge shows a gap between bat and ball. Over to ball-tracking - oh, it's going over the stumps. Green had taken a couple of steps down the track and that came to his rescue. Judicious use of the review from Green

Jayden Seales to Josh Inglis, out Bowled!! Massive error in judgement. Josh Inglis has done a King. That was a length delivery, 132.9 clicks, landed just outside off and jagged in big to hit the top of off. Jayden Seales is elated. Windies camp is happy as well. Josh Inglis was shocked by the sound of timber. He misread the line as well as the length. Poor judgement indeed. But he will have to take the long walk back. Windies decided to review but Green has managed to survive it. It seemed it hit the front pad first. But it wasn't to be. The umpires are out and the players are now making their way out. Beau Webster and Travis Head in the middle now. The pitch is well dusted and the Aussies used the light roller I think. SJ will open the attack from the Garner end

Nathan Lyon:
It's been a couple of exciting days of Test cricket, Test cricket is challenging with different conditions in different parts of the world. There's no limit, it's about going out and doing the basics right and try to put pressure on the opposition when the opportunity comes. Every run is gold, no rocket science there, we need try to get our lead as high as we can. I think there's little bit of spin there, there has been a lot in it for the fast bowlers, if an opportunity comes, I will try to take it with both hands, a big day is coming up for us.

CricSham 2025-06-27 14:12:56

Non threatening over from AJ. Batsmen and bowlers feeling each other out. SJ almost had TH. That one kept low. This is a bad sign re the pitch

36.5
Alzarri Joseph to Head, no run, dropped! How often have we seen the Windies drop a catch in the slip cordon in this game! In the corridor of uncertainty, pitches and then straightens to square Head up. He pushes at it and gets a thick outside edge. Greaves at second slip dives to his left and gets his hands to it but the ball pops out. Should have taken that

CricSham 2025-06-27 14:23:03

Alzarri Joseph to Head, 3 runs, nicely played! Pitched up outside off, Head shows the full face of the bat and drives it past mid-off. Brathwaite after it and shows some good footwork as he keeps the ball in play with his right boot before going beyond the ropes. Saves a run for his side

Shamar Joseph to Head, out Lbw!! That's a celebappeal and Head has been given OUT LBW, he doesn't wait and starts walking back to the pavilion. Head will feel very unlucky here, came back from a length and skidded onto the left-hander - stayed devilishly low and Head didn't have a chance, was caught in the crease and was struck bang in front of off-stump, that'd have been crashing into the middle-stump and West Indies have broken through.

This will make for interesting conversation at lunch...WI will look to make further in roads after SJ returned to remove TH. In the Aussie dressing room naturally the conversation will be each run counts. Australia will be looking at 250. Wi probably a 200 chase. The pitch is starting to play tricks. The one that got TH literally ran along the ground. Travis dropped on his hunches. We also had a few taking off so who knows what the afternoon and day 4 will bring. Well I am off for a spot of tea before we resume.

Bamboocane 2025-06-27 16:37:04

One thing for sure, it is not affecting his play. Maybe he knows that he is good to go.

62.6
Shamar Joseph to Webster, out Caught by Shai Hope!! Superb innings comes to an end. Tame end though. Was a fuller length delivery, down leg, Webster looked to clip it and ended up edging it to the keeper. The bowler appealled but the finger stayed down. But Windies decided to review and they have managed to get the 6th wicket. Huge breakthrough as Australia were taking the game away. Shamar Joseph and his team are elated.

63.3
Jayden Seales to Carey, SIX, straight down the ground for a sixer. Carey has decided now that he will go for it. Was a length delivery, Carey jumped down and got behind the line of the delivery to time it down the ground. The ball sailed over the ropes

Acid 2025-06-27 17:22:12

The interesting thing is Webster knew he touched the ball as when Chase asked for the review he started walking off the field.

But as the on-field umpire said “not out” he didn’t initially walk

These guys really do not know how to bat....to build an innings of note.
They still have that T20 mentality where you really do not have to think to play an innings. Just throw ball at bat and hope something connects.

It is pitiful that after all these years we have not had a Gomes or Chanderpaul batter in the test lineup.
Athanaze is probably the only one close to that, although not close enough.
However he is on teh outside looking in....

We down to 250 now albeit for the loss of Brathwaite.

I like the approach by Carty to play balls on merit and take the simple singles.

10.1
Hazlewood to John Campbell, out Caught by Carey!! One shot too many and Campbell falls - was a good length delivery outside off and he was attempting the cheeky lap sweep, but it's Hazlewood's extra bounce which is his undoing, hits high on the bat and lobs up, a simple catch for the keeper and West Indies have lost both openers. Replays show that the ball actually popped up off Campbell's gloves.

Campbell is no Test level opening bat. We knew that all along, yet they rushed to select him. We have two opening bats that are severely inconsistent. Exposes the middle order to the new ball far to early. We consistent at that.

There was enough on the wicket, it was up and down on a length. I’m enjoying it, Tests in the moment. Once we saw West Indies take the second new ball, I thought things could happen but not that quickly. There were a few cracks probably on a short of a length which kept the batters guessing and we kept hitting that length.

Travis Head | Player of the Match -
I would have liked to score a bit more, missed out on a few runs. The communication was important, the conditions were tricky and we did exceptionally well to get to 300 on that surface. I was more positive on Day 1 when the game was up for the taking, last night I was desperate to end the day unbeaten, momentum was the key over here, we wanted to build a partnership, we were slow, but it worked out well (on his stand with Beau Webster). He has played a great deal of FC cricket, has got experience in all conditions and situations. You tend to do well then and he took the responsibility. I try to contribute every time I go out there, was disappointed at not making runs at Lords (in the WTC final) despite my good form, was nice to get runs and contribute to the team victory here.
