President Irfaan Ali names his squad

Kaieteur News – President Irfaan Ali on Saturday night appointed members of his cabinet and announced the names of other parliamentarians and advisors at a ceremony held at State House, Georgetown


Most of the ministers who served the last five years were retained while, a few new faces and new ministries were announced.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall has retained his portfolio while Ministers Dr. Vindyha Persaud (Minister of Human Services), Dr. Frank Anthony (Minister of Health), Vickram Bharrat (Minister of Natural Resources), Charles Ramson (Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport), Gail Teixeira (Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance), Dr. Ashni Singh (Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance), Hugh Todd (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations), Kwame McCoy (Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister), Collin Croal (Minister of Housing), Juan Edgill (Minister of Public Works) and Zulfikar Mustapha (Minister of Agriculture) also retained their portfolios.

Meanwhile, in his address, President Irfaan Ali said, “The new cabinet today has been put on notice that… This government is not about power and I want to make that very clear.”

He said that ministers who wish to exercise power will find themselves out of a job very quickly, as the government stands on responsibility, service, and humility. “…no egos, no egos.

WIN’s 16 representatives that will sit in the National Assembly


Kaieteur News – Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party Azruddin Mohamed on Saturday night released the names of the 16 persons who will represent his party in the National Assembly.

His announcement came shortly after President Irfaan Ali sworn in members of his Cabinet and the persons who will be part of his government for the new five years.

Among the list of Members of Parliament (MPs) of the WIN party are Mohamed, Tabitha Sarabo-Haley, Dawn Hastings Williams, General Secretary, Odessa Primus, Natasha Singh-Lewis, Duarte Hetsberger, Leslyn Gale-Lowe, Vishnu Panday, Beverly Cornelius, Gobin Harbhajan, Deon LaCruz, Nandranie Singh, Dr. Gordon Barker, Janelle Sweatnam, Dr. Ryan Richards, and Dr. Andre Lewis.

WIN secured the second highest votes at the elections gaining 16 seats in the National Assembly.

With his eyes set on taking government at the next general elections, Mohamed disclosed that as WIN prepares to take up the role as the main opposition party, “We will be working tirelessly to ensure we hold the PPP accountable, whatever they promise in their manifesto, they have to deliver, whatever we have in our manifesto, we will pitch it to them too.”

“We will be on their necks every single day,” he said noting that they have persons to focus on all the various sectors.

12 individuals who will represent the party in the 13th Parliament over the next five years. Notably,

Norton will not return to Parliament but will remain as party leader, while Terrence Campbell will lead the parliamentary team.

The list of MPs includes returning members Coretta McDonald, Ganesh Mahipaul, and Nima Natasha Flue-Bess. They will be joined by several new faces, including political commentator Dr. David Hinds, Riaz Zakeer Rupnarain, Sherod Avery Duncan, Linden Mayor and former Regional Chairman Sharma Raheem Solomon, attorney and peace ambassador Dr. Dexter Todd, gospel artiste and entrepreneur Saiku Andrews, and PNCR Vice-Chairman Vinceroy H. Jordan, who represents Region Five.

Nice to see Jacobs get wuk.

But he's not the actual cabinet minister. He's just a technocrat within that ministry and I think he's ideally suited within that portfolio.
