‘Pres’ wins but Naps keep top spotPresentation College moved to the second position on the 16-team standings in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Saturday (September 27)with a commanding 4-1 victory over Malick Secondary at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. It took another double contribution from their instrumental striker, Isaiah Jacob, to spearhead the win, with Raul Perreira and Nikosi Foncette adding the other goals in a win that took them to 12 points, the same amount as their southern counterparts, Naparima College, only for an inferior goal difference to rob them of the opportunity to take the top spot.
Presentation lifted itself despite losing coach Shawn Cooper due to a safeguarding suspension earlier this year. And after a first-match bye, the school, which in 2023 won both the schools’ football and cricket InterCol for the first time, defeated Trinity College East 3-0 in their first match, San Juan North Secondary 4-1, and St Benedict’s College 3-1.The southerners leapfrogged St Mary’s College, whose three-game winning streak was snapped by Fatima College in a 2-2 tie at their ground on Serpentine Road, St Clair. The "Saints", as they are popularly known, came from two goals behind to draw with archrival Queen’s Royal College (QRC), three weeks ago at their Serpentine Road home. But since they have racked up the scores by beating Carapichaima Secondary 5-2, Trinity College East 5-0, and Scarborough Secondary 5-0.
Yesterday, the Saints got strikes from the feet of Joshua Miguel and Jalon Manswell, which were cancelled out by goals from Seth Hadeed and Josiah Fernandes. Fatima has had a flying start this season by taking the opening National Gas Company (NGC) Super Cup with a 4-2 victory over St Benedict’s College at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain, despite sporting a fairly inexperienced team, following the loss of some 50 percent of players from 2024.Like St Mary’s, Fatima has gone unbeaten to date, with victories over Scarborough Secondary 3-0, St Benedict’s 3-2, and Trinity Moka, 3-2.Meanwhile, Trinity College East recorded its first win of the season by beating its namesake Trinity College (Moka) 2-1, thanks to goals from Dexter Croal and Kamani Nicholls.
