‘KILLER INSTINCT’
Sammy: Winning mentality crucial for Windies in India

West Indies coach Daren Sammy believes the key to competing against India in their upcoming Test series lies in mindset, insisting his squad must go into the series with a winning attitude despite the team’s long-standing struggles on subcontinental soil.“Let’s not take it for granted. India is very difficult to beat at home. We are aware of that. But like I told the guys in our little squad meeting (Saturday), the mindset determines the skill set,” Sammy said, adding that players must believe they can win rather than be intimidated by history.

Arriving in India, where the West Indies have not won a series in more than four decades, Sammy said the team has already begun recovery and preparation work after a long travel journey.“Yes, it’s good to be in India… just arriving here, the facilities, everything, I would be motivated to actually train here. And I’m pretty sure the guys are, you know, after a long travel journey, it’s important right away to start the recovery process for us to be able to start the work,” he explained.

Sammy revealed that the squad has been engaged in skill-focused sessions to adjust to Indian conditions and prepare for the specific challenges posed by spin and pace on the subcontinent.Sammy also addressed key areas of focus for both batting and bowling. “The opening spot remains crucial, with Tage (Tagnarine Chanderpaul) seen as a candidate to provide solidity at the top, while the return of batsman Alick (Athanaze) offers technical skill against spin and pace, vital in Asian conditions.

The West Indies coach also pointed to the team’s recent performance against Australia, where the bowling unit took 60 wickets in three Tests, as evidence of their ability to compete at the highest level. “You don’t win Test matches if you can’t take 20 wickets,” Sammy emphasised.

All ya see Sammy knows cricket. So nutting about Batting, you doh win matches by batting....!!!!!cool

With the loss of the two Josephs not sure how we can take 20 wickets. Hopefully Anderson Philip can step up.

Sammy is got the right mindset. I don’t know if he has the players to do it. Let’s not forget New Zealand got whitewashed in the test series in Sri Lanka and from there flew to India and whitewashed India just last year.

Ha! Sammy obviously doesn’t know we have to make more than 27 to be competitive. And no I’m not dropping it. DARREN JULIUS GARVEY SAMMY MUST NEVER, EVER BE MADE TO FORGET 27 ALL OUT

It's not going to be an easy series...

I am seeing some young unknown names on India's teams, and they are well-coached players.

Unfortunately, mindset doesn't win games; CWI teams lack quality bowlers and polished batsmen.

I don't think it will be a pretty sight. It's not looking good.

Jumpy....

It's a nightmare that 27...

I never thought I would see a CWI team routed for such a total...

Sorry Sammy ... no killer instinct exists.

"Mindset determines skill-set" is one of the dumbest statement ever made! Skill-set is determined by learning and practicing to perfection. Alright, I've never climbed before but I'm gonna go climb Mt. Everest tomorrow and with an amateur as my guide because we both have the mindset to do it
