In a move which is expected to help save the organisation money in the long-run, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said it will be reducing the number of tournaments and consequently the number of teams participating in regional competitions for the 2025/26 season.

At CWI's quarterly press conference in Antigua on October 1, CWI president Dr Kishore Shallow described the cricket body's financial standing as a chronic one, and he, CWI CEO Chris Dehring and director of cricket Miles Bascombe said the board is doing its best to work alongside regional and international partners to ensure a boost in revenue while maintaining the vision of CWI's strategic plan for 2024-2027.

The CWI officials confirmed that the boys' regional Under-17 tournament for the 2026 season will be scrapped, while the women's regional T20 and 50-over tournaments will be merged into one competition and is expected to be hosted ahead of the West Indies' women's series against Sri Lanka in February. Also, on the men's side, Bascombe disclosed that the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) and the West Indies Academy cricket teams will most likely be pulled from the regional tournaments in the upcoming season.

Cash strapped but yet all the big ones touring all over with the team... enjoying the business class trips and luxury life.

Who needs an U17 tournament when we could see the big ones with the senior team instead.... excellent decision CWI. You guys are doing a wonderful job big grin

On ah side note.. what's the purpose of the Academy team now? How will these guys get to showcase their talents?

Hence in one of my previous post, I supported each Regional Team going it alone as the financial outlook and ranking prospects of West Indies grow more dismal each day.

How can the body charged with the development of the sport in the region discard a competition intended to develop youngsters? Is their an alternative plan by this group of "thinkers"?

It is just shocking to hear that they are going to cut back on the amount of cricket played, as it is, there is not enough cricket right now, there is no need for all these officials to be traveling, technology can bridge that gap

I do believe CCC and the academy serve a really good surprise, we have seen players not selected for their territories, represent these teams and well

They are the ones in need of trimming.

Structural trimming required.... Directors and free loaders.. Financial audit....where last year's surplus....where new sponsors Coca-Cola ,Bhumika Realty etc money... details... publication...

Good move abolition of under-17.... It's enough.....under-15....under-19... Academy.....West Indies A..... with more tour for under-19, Academy and West Indies A.....K.L.Rahul was player for India A vs Australia A, just before Test series...

Good move...Each team to have extra compulsory batting coach...

CCC and Academy must be there......Bad move...they abolished...

Instead of posting all these trash, year round, why don’t you all organize club cricket, in your communities.
Many WI cricketers, made a lot of money, in cricket, and broadcasting, courtesy of CWI funding their development.
Few ever gave back, to help foster the development of the youth. all, they do, is trying to burn down the brand, to rule over the ashes.

@Edrich

Instead of living in Sammy's behind why don't you come out for some fresh air? Or yuh like it there? lol

How do you know these players don't give back to their local clubs?

Maybe in Sammyland they don't? Ray Charles and your idol don't sponsor no local cricket?
