Over $300M in illegal drugs seized over two days
A joint law enforcement operation in Palo Seco on Wednesday, resulted in the seizure of cocaine and Colombian marijuana valued at more than $292 million. The exercise was coordinated by national security agencies and led by the elite Vetted Unit, with support from officers of the South-Western Division.
Police said the discovery was made at a concealed stash site, following overnight surveillance of the remote area.According to official figures, the search found 1,177.4 kilogrammes of Colombian marijuana packaged in 41 crocus bags, with an estimated value of $129,216,117.80. Officers also found 117.14 kilogrammes of cocaine in five crocus bags, valued at $163,283,788.80.
Police said the seizure followed the arrest on Tuesday (September 30) of a close associate of a drug trafficking network operating in the South-Western Division. On that occasion, officers intercepted a large quantity of Colombian marijuana. Investigators said intelligence gathered from the arrest indicated that additional narcotics were to be moved from the Palo Seco stash to avoid detection, leading to the overnight surveillance and Wednesday’s discovery.
