Sammy should not be the Coach for Test Cricket

Tue, Oct 7, '25 at 12:09 PM

As a test player he was mediocre and would never have made any test side before 2000.

I see an argument for him being the Coach for white ball cricket but Sammy lacks the experience and knowledge necessary to guide our young test batsmen thus we fail on numerous occasions to score even 200 runs in an innings.

What was Sammy's advice when the 27 happened?

He can certainly clap on the bowlers who don't need his advice on how to bowl out a test side.

His playing career has little bearing on his suitability for the head coach job.

What was Alex Ferguson’s or Arsene Wenger’s playing career like?

The challenge of being appointed all format coach is exacerbated by the scheduling conflicts that will invariably arise due to the volume of cricket being played. This has already played out twice this year.

More to the point of suitability, if test cricket is so vastly different than LO cricket, then LOGIC dictates that different approaches, strategies, and even roles need to be appropriate for each format.

It appears that Sammy has adopted a “cookie cutter” approach to his teams in each format. A certain degree of “sameness” in approach using the same core personnel AND COACHES across all formats.

That “maths not mathsin”.

We have gone from a developing (Coley) team that played Australia straight up in Australia to a team that is totally handpicked by Sammy. This said team is falling back into the ABYSYS it looked like it was pulling itself out of. You pull a number of senior short game specialist and expect what?

Management or Coach don't have a clue. Just sit and watch as the anointed one and fellow clueless coaches set us back even further.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is a losing endeavor! Management should go!
