CWI to review franchise system
Cricket West Indies (CWI) will again review its regional franchise system after senior officials admitted that it has not consistently produced players capable of performing at the international level.CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe confirmed that another working group will be formed to examine the franchise structure, describing it as a critical but “underserved” layer of the regional game.
“There was also a lot of discussion around the franchise system and its ability to deliver on high-performance outcomes,” Bascombe said. “This would probably be the third iteration of a review of the franchise system and it is very crucial to our performance as Cricket West Indies.”
Bascombe said that while the region continues to produce players with natural ability, too few have been able to convert that talent into consistent international performance. “High performance is probably that layer in our cricket system that is most underserved,” he explained.
