If our players get to play more test cricket between series, our cricketers will be more competitive.

3 weeks of training camp and a practice match (which we didn't get this series) is not enough

We can all see in this test series that the players are becoming more competitive every game

Yet the Board is now moving in the opposite direction by shortening our FC tournament.

Again, as I've said before, if we don't have the money to provide our test cricketers with adequate playing time, then we should enter into agreements with other cricketing Nations and send our players to their tournaments. We should do the same for them. Win- Win for both Boards

The Board must be creative.

There is already a template with CPL and the other leagues with T20

Make something happen for Test cricket, man !!!

Flat track and India declared..............

Hold my hands up I've frequently been very critical of our performances for some time including those in the first match of this tour but credit where credit is due got to applaud the application of the batting unit over the last 2 days and the enthusiasm and effort in the field prior to that.

Sure we're going to lose but we were expecting that anyway, sure the pitch was easy paced etc. etc but we took the game to the 5th day after being asked to follow on, and we caused a whole heap of frustration to a very good India team.

Big up John Campbell and Shai Hope getting the century (another in Shai's case) monkies off their backs.

The resolve and application with the bat was good to see. Is this something new, is it a change going forward, I don't know, I hope so.

I do know that it was just good to see.

Having said all that, the fact of the matter is that we are still going to lose by several wickets, a hammering however you wish to dress it up.

The fact that we can still regard this as one of our oh so infrequent decent performances tells us exactly where we are now.

So does this performances provide a glimmer of hope for our cricket

...I don't know.

Taking a line from the film Clockwise to sum up the plight of a current west indies supporter:

'its not the despair that gets you it's the hope.'

@JoeGrine

I am glad for the fight shown but we still getting licks. The BLs acting as if Indies 8 down with 40 runs to get.

Critical Thinking ded, ded, ded, coulda unnastan if this was a 5 test series with sustained improvement

@Cuter

What we can do is invite a couple county teams to play in our tournament as they usually come out here during the winter to train.

We definitely need a practice match or two before NZD.

@Cuter

you guys are too easily fooled; 20 wickets vs 6 .. and we are on the right track... we getting beaten on a draw wicket.

@Blackbird

I am glad to see the fight. But can we continue in this vein? That's what we would like to see us building on the previous Positives, not wondering h what the expletives going on.

@Cuter

We also need to send a few of our players to other tournaments. Great exposure

This is the best point that you ever made here.

And that's the main problem with our cricket.

There is no opportunity to build on anything after this series.

Those same guys will go to the next series out of form

@Cuter

Bygones test series were sometimes 2yrs apart. Era 50's-90's The Nurses, Butchers,Dujons and more played neither league nor county so are you saying it is only the practice/tour matches and nets made them world-class? Kalli, Yagga, Lewis, Davis, Shillingford et al were good and very good before getting any meaningful overseas contract if any. It was quality that sustained us. Quality of clubs, mentorship and individual character. Unless that grassroots grounding returns all else is naught!

@Brerzerk

So true. We need to review the regional FC system and really concentrate on the better players getting more playing time. I think one round of matches and then you pick 3 squads of the best players and let them play against one another and hopefully against an international A or B team or county team. If funds are low, it does not make sense spending on players who may barely be of regional standard. Money is better spent in getting the better regional players to play more cricket to progress hopefully to international standard

Clearly you mean more warm up matches and three and four day cricket.

Test matches are the series.
