Of king Hope as the best white ball specialist or does Gayle still sit large and in charge?
Are we preparing for coronation
@InHindsight
Hupe have to win world cup. Saying so the best ODI batsman we had was Richards by a long way.
@InHindsight
Gayle is a format and global LEGEND
in 2025, Hope is a very, very, very good ODI batsman for the West Indies
@methodic
I loved the bold and intimidating presence of the great man and as per usual with West Indians he was a pioneer of the limited overs format(s). But Hope and guys like Gayle lived in an era of scientific and deep analysis of the players.
Hope's biggest strength is his consistency whole Gayle's was the destruction of bowlers and occasional big scores
ODI = King Viv
T20I = King Gayle.
Hope is a distant 2nd.
But great to use Hope's name in the same breath.
Says a lot about him.
Hope is special in a different way
@TanteMerle
I know you can be reasonable and objective. It ain't beyond you.
You present a good argument but not sure Hope is a distant second as you say. He is definitely in the conversation and may leave Gayle in the dust. Who knows
@Halliwell
Hope is still carving out his legacy. I agree that Gayle is legendary. Hope os far off, in white ball
Hope is right up there with the best at least in ODI cricket. No questions Abt it. And he's got many yrs left in him to go past many great players
@InHindsight
Hope will pass Gayle in ODIS, T20IS doubt it. Viv will remain at the top as the Man was before his time with a S/R of 90+ and a brilliant fielder. At the end of the day Hope may well be considered 2nd best in ODIS.

indeed, and well on his way to achieving legendary status.
men used to get all sensitive when folks pleaded with Hope to up his strike rate- he transformed his value when he addressed that part of his game.
@InHindsight
I will bet any amount of money that LLoyd was better than Gayle in ODI. I think LLoyd scored a 100 in a world cup final at rate greater than a run a ball with no field restrictions and bowlers being able to bowl down the leg side. At one point Richards, LLyod and Greenidge were rated the best three ODI batsmen in the world by Richie Beneau.
