@imusic

I actually faced him twice in school cricket. One time he was bowling quick and extracting a lot of bounce. One skid off my bat and then my forehead. Of course I wasn't very good but I told my teammates that he was extraordinary.

Matting or turf?

He had that combination of height, pace and swing. Best young West Indies pacer over 20 matches IMHO. Pity he was injured

@Baje

Agree 100%

See Seales. Finger cross and praying he stays healthy.

@I witnessed a piece of terrorism at Sabina one evening. It was vs. India, Bishop was frighteningly, terrifyingly fast, at the other end was what must've been Walsh's fastest spells. India were reeling at about 31/4.

matting, in the Savannah. He was playing for Belmont, I was at Diego Sec. I then went on to face him again when I repeated at Mucurapo. Also in the Savannah where Belmont played their home games. I missed a game against Belmont earlier that year and the coach and a couple of my teammates accused me of running from Bishop.

Ian Bishop was potentially one of the Greatest Fast Bowlers we have ever produced.However a series of back injuries robbed all of us of his true talents.He had everything and even after he recovered from his first major injury he was still lethal, but after the second major injury, he was not as effective and had a couple of poor series before another injury forced him to retire.Those of us who follow statistics closely know that he was right up there with a bowling average of 21 and more than 4.5 wickets per test and a strike rate hovering just above 50, all statistics reserved for the greatest fast bowlers. The important thing to remember is that Bishop was a SWING BOWLER in particular he had a beautiful out swinger.In looking at our great fast bowlers only Malcolm Marshall and to a lesser extent Wes Hall were noted swing bowlers.When the WI toured England in 1988,Malcolm Marshall famously rated Bishop above Ambrose even after Curtly took a bagful of wickets in the early test matches, much to Ambrose's annoyance.Incidentally Bishop had a close relationship with Malteenoes Sports Club in Guyana and spent a lot of time there when he was about 19 or 20 years old.Undoubtedly the best fast bowler out of T&T.

@natty_forever

Good one, Natty. But the answer is yes, just a couple. Look at Tony Gray's test record and you will be in for a pleasant surprise. He was quite good. As was Rampaul and Dillon was not far off from being 5th in a 5 man pace attack: Bishop, Gray, Seales, Rampaul and Dillon. That attack would make some regional batsman cry for Mommy

@StumpCam

Referring to Prince Bartholomew as a “fast bowler” is an overstatement of epic proportions.

That said……he and Vanburn Holder were about par.
