Call him Dr Warner: former minister, 82, gets UTT PhD
EIGHTY-TWO year-old former minister and former FIFA vice president Jack Warner is now “Dr Jack Warner” after receiving his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).Warner was among the graduands yesterday at the morning session of the UTT graduation ceremony held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), Port of Spain, and received a standing ovation for his accomplishment.
Asked how he felt about graduating, he replied that he was “elated”.“I am proud to graduate. Education has no shelf life. You never stop learning,” he said.He expressed hope that his degree at the age of 82 would be an inspiration to young people.
During his remarks, Israel Khan, SC paid kudos to Warner. “It would be remiss of me if I failed to focus on a special graduate of the 2025 class. He is perhaps at the age of 82, the oldest graduand to be a bestowed with a PhD degree—Doctor of Philosophy, in the history of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). I speak of Dr. Austin Jack Warner,” he said.
