WI cricket - specifically the formats grandparents and great uncles follow - has been in decline for over 30yrs. IPL didn't kill anything that wasn't already dead.

When IPL first came out, Fan was among those here that said IPL was “circus cricket” and that T20 cricket in general was just a fad and wouldn’t last.

Today, T20 cricket subsidizes ALL cricket formats and IPL is the undoubted most popular and lucrative of leagues in any form of cricket.

The hatred of IPL and T20 cricket here runs deep. Some of the same people totally engaged when CPL comes around, especially desperate for chicken curry to actually beat curry chicken in a CPL final

IM - what I meant is that CWI has placed their premier ODI tournament smack in the middle of hurricane season…this was a nod to players who might contemplate IPL participation..as fate would have it few Windies cricketers are getting signed up for IPL so the rescheduled regional tournament is in vain..and is quite detrimental to development of regional players…

West Indies Championship ran from Jan 29 to Apr 30.

IPL 2025 started Mar 22 and was originally scheduled to end May 11. Then it has that India vs Pakistan scuffle and it ended up being postponed to end early June.

The only concession made by CWI was to allow Shepherd and Rutherford to rejoin their respective IPL teams and miss representing West Indies on their UK tour as a result.

The conflict with WI cricket didn’t come from IPL. It came from the West Indies team.

That’s the 1st class tournament..I’m talking about the 50 Over Championship…this was traditionally scheduled before May each year..in years gone by it was scheduled in between the 1st class season..now they have pushed it to October/November which is not a typical cricket season due to Caribbean weather…the CPL in September has further complicated matters

Dem man went from Ireland, to England, to West Indies (against Oz), to series against Pakistan, to CPL, to India, to Bangladesh, and now in New Zealand.

As much as IPL is a convenient and juicy scapegoat for the ills of WI cricket, that narrative is false bruh.
