Is Chase a liability to this team?

Frankly, I think he is keeping talent such as Hodge out of the team.

I really think Sammy should have a hard talk with Hope about taking up the test captaincy once again,.

Unless Chase can become prolific at scoring runs in the middle (taking a few wickets would not hurt either), he is more of a drag on the team than an asset.

Making him captain may have been a desperate but not wise decision.

@embsallie

Chase is the best player on the team. Everybody can see that.

Is Chase a liability to this team?

Ans. 100%

100 test innings and an average of 25.5, he shouldn't even be anywhere close to where cricket is being played.

He is no more of a liability than probably any other batter there; and he provides a sensible spin option.

Who is he ‘keeping out’ of this team?? Man behave allyuh yourself eh!

@Halliwell

Does it justify his position in the team cos he provides sensible spin option?

Our standards have become so low that we are satisfied with fillers in the team.

@embsallie

a man wirh a 20 something average is keeping another one that averages the same out of the team?none of them should be in test cricket it is embarassing

Chase is one of the valuable players in the team, but he should and needs to score at least 2 fifties in the Test matches to maintain credibility and to quiet the fans who are questioning his inclusion. There are many other batters who need to score some fifties, if they don't their selections in the future could be in doubt.

Fifties, that statement sums up how low we have fallen!

Also the comparison of a player with 50 test with one with less than 10. I going with the rookie, let's see how he looks after 50.

Chase is liability or not ...... very difficult question....

I followed his career since his test debut....he started strongly...scoring century against England in very fast pitch... centuries vs India & Pakistan.... unfortunately, very drastically, his batting deteriorated, he himself concentrated more on his bowling.....so much so...Haynes as Chief Selector picked Chase for AUS tour...as sole spinner...

Be that as it may, My take...his batting has fallen very badly...in every formats.... although his spin bowling has been very effective in white ball....In test cricket, his spin bowling is not effective...he may score odd big runs or take wickets....but ..

IF NOT CAPTAIN....MY PICK ...KEVIN SINCLAIR.....his overall domestic F.C. average.... batting & bowling...better than Chase... very young... genuine all rounder....he played vital role in victories vs Australia, Pakistan....at present...he faces disciplinary action....

In White ball ..Chase

In Red ball... Sinclair

@embsallie

Looking at this squad, Warrican is the liability

It took you approximately 23 years and a second or third handle to come up with that, eh? 😷

Next post you will be cussing Shai.

@tc1

If Shai provides ammunition to be discussed, then so be it.

At least we are having a discussion.

No one is saying that the West Indies are world beaters, but they have shown flashes of brilliance where there is a semblance of a team that could go somewhere, if not compete.

You only need to take a look at South Africa with a bunch of unheard or new players that have played consistent cricket, enabling them to win.

We need an astute captain for the West Indies, and Chase is not it.

Our bowling department seem to have found its groove. We just need batsmen to put up their hands and be consistent, that is all I am hoping for.

Now some of you are coming up with all kind of stats comparing players average etc.

However the field is not level when you just look at an average, without looking at the way and tenure through which these were achieved and maintained.

On another note, Brandon King, Tage and even Campbell do not compare to Brathwaite in any way or form.

That is not to say that Brathwaite should not be dropped, but his replacements are no trendsetters.
