A historic political shift is on the rise as the New Democratic Party (NDP) has won St Vincent and the Grenadines’ 2025 general election, ending more than 25 years outside the country’s top leadership.
Party leader Dr Godwin Friday is set to become the nation’s seventh prime minister since independence in 1979, following a closely fought race against long-serving former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.
According to St Vincent Times, the NDP secured 11 parliamentary seats early in the vote count, decisively bringing an end to Gonsalves’ lengthy tenure in office.
As Dr Friday prepares to form a new government, Vincentians are expected to turn their attention to his administration’s policy agenda and how the new prime minister plans to tackle the island’s economic and social priorities.
