New Zealand are about to begin their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, the last of the nine teams involved in the WTC to do so. They last played a Test against Zimbabwe four months ago while their previous fixture as part of the WTC was a year ago when England came to their shores and won the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy 2-1.
West Indies, on the other hand, have endured a torrid start to their WTC cycle with a 3-0 whitewash against Australia at home which included being bowled out for 27 in the final Test. A 2-0 defeat to India followed in the subcontinent to make matters worse. But, the men from the Caribbean showed a lot more application in the second Test against India, dragging the game to Day 5 after India enforced the follow-on. John Campbell and Shai Hope led the fight with centuries.

West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field

Roston Chase:
We are gonna bowl first. The overhead conditions, the greenness of the wicket and the stats here. We have got Kemar Roach back. We have a few changes. The best team about this team, we have time on our hands
.Tom Latham:
We have batted many times here. Few overhead conditions. If we do well in the first session, we should be okay. It is good if you are positive and looking to score. Some of the guys who have come in today have done well in ODI and first-class cricket.

This Ojay guy must be really good.

I haven't heard much of him, but here he is debuting in the 1st test.

The pitch report was supposed to happen. But the hessian cover has been put on as a precautionary measure because of the little drizzle that is on. Neil Wagner believes there will be movment because of the grass cover but the overhead conditions will play a bigger part. The floodlights are on as well.

Matt Henry:
It is exciting. We are kicking off our WTC. Some boys are making their transition here at this level. The guys know the conditions here. Traditionally there is bounce here at Hagley. They are a strong side with bat and ball. Specially, with the ball. The batters will look to tough it out for as long as possible.
