There was rain expected during the first session. The NZ players and the Windies team are lining up to go out into the middle. The rain is still around, though very little. The players making their way for the anthems led by the umpires. The Windies anthem being played first. All the lights have been switched on it seems. The NZ anthem being played now.
New Zealand vs West Indies, 1st Test [5.00 pm]
Imagine what it must be like to be Anderson Phillip.
Made WI debut. Played 2 test matches. Didn't light the cricketing world afire. Didn't toots dung de place either. Well....maybe that's arguable seeing what's happened subsequently.
Selected for tour of India. Rookie Layne with minimal FC matches selected and Phillip dropped
Played 2nd test match due to Layne injury. Didn't take a wicket
Selected for the NZ tour with Layne and another rookie with even less FC experience than Layne
Dropped in favour of BOTH
Good for the ego ![]()
Wbat a thing the appointed vc cant make the team
If athanaze dont score no runs he should be dropped from all formats

Roach to Conway, out Caught by Justin Greaves!! Poor poke outside off and the second slip has dived to his right to take it. Pitched up, nipped away with the seam and the batter pushed at it to pay the price.

Day 1: Play stopped due to rain
NZ 5 /1 (3.3) CRR:1.43
The groundsmen are coming in. Play has been stopped. It started raining all of a sudden. The Hessian being rolled out.

Kane Williamson 3(9)
Neil Wagner with an umbrella says, 'The rain is getting heavier. It doesn't look good. The wind is dying out. Don't think it is going anywhere.' He adds, 'there is some moisture and it is quite wet already on the outfield. It is a good draining ground.'
12:20 Local Time, 23:20 GMT, 04:50 IST: The drizzle seems to have stopped. The groundsmen have started their mop-up operation. They are clearing the water from the covers. Both the umpires are once again out in the middle and they are having a chat with the head groundsman. Now, the covers are being peeled off. The cover has been taken off from the bowler's run-up area. Looks like we are going to have a restart soon. And as I type, the sun is shining through now.
The players and the umpires make their way out to the middle. Both Latham and Williamson will have to refocus and start afresh again. Seales to continue his over. Three slips and a gully in place. Here we go...

Jayden Seales to Latham, no run, nicely bowled!

Roach to Williamson, 3 runs, nicely played! Shortish and some room on offer, Williamson gets on top of the bounce and cuts it through point. The chase is on and the fielder cuts it off near the fence. Three runs result

West Indies review for a lbw!
Looked high to the naked eye.

Roach to Williamson, no run, West Indies review for a lbw! Looked high to the naked eye. Roach convinces Chase to take the review. Was a back of a length delivery that seamed in from off, Williamson hopped to keep it out but got beaten on the inside edge to get struck above the knee roll on the front pad. UltraEdge shows a flat line. Over to ball-tracking and it reveals that it is bouncing over the stumps. Not a wise review considering
