NZ Cricket Grounds…

….simple, beautiful and looks cheap to construct and maintain.

i suppose it’s too late now for our countries to have a similar model, where big concrete stands are replaced with grass and trees.

But maybe not. If the current stadiums can be sold to residential or commercial developers, and these new simple grounds built elsewhere.

Government will gain financially too….especially on those grounds located in the middle of town.

That model works for NZ climate, but in the tropics shelter from the Sun is a must, especially if fans going to be sitting in the heat for 8 hours. This idea is as bad as South Africa batting too long!😜

@StumpCam

I can understand your comment. The grounds are very open and everyone brings a chair (less maintenance). Toilets are temporary as are concessions. It is basically an enclosed field in the middle of the largest botanical gardens in the southern hemisphere. Very relaxed and a great place to watch cricket. Only a couple hundred people at the ground but interestingly a lot of teenagers and younger. Cricket is alive still in New Zealand but only to a point. Most people in the hotels etc just look at you blankly when you say you have come to watch cricket. Therefore it is pretty much the same as in the West Indies except that New Zealand has a real outdoor sports culture so all sports thrive although rugby is of course the biggest followed by cycling, esp mountain biking.

I really would live to go watch a game of cricket at any of their grounds plus two on SA
