dealing with the bodyline attack with which oppositions have targeted him... he looks decidedly uncomfortable an short leg an leg slip are not rocket science positions for him against the quicks ..it is a weakness an if he can overcome it no reason why he can't turn that very modest mid-20's test average into something a lot more respectable even at this late stage in his career...undoubtedly he can go on to become an ODI great where that deficiency is not as readily targeted an exposed because of the obvious variables!
HOPE gotta find a way of ...
@CCW
true but Hope is not our problem - the rest of them are di problem - mediocrity on steroids
@Chrissy
not all suggesting Hope is the problem cause he's obviously a cut above the rest was just viewing it from his perspective an what he needs to do to take his game to the next level in test cricket.....wouldn't know where to start with the rest of dem!!
@Chrissy

@CCW
Well, another issue is the WI commentators have to be more conscious of what they are saying, they should not be advertising the deficiencies of the WI batters in the middle of a Test match
They always talk about WI players not exercising situation awareness, how about the commentators exercising situation awareness. Last night as soon as Bishop started talking about Hope deficiency to short pitch bowling the NZ bowlers started to attack him
@dayne
Dude every team has video and their analysts exploit it. Yes Bishop is annoying but the opponents already have the intel
@FuzzyWuzzy
Yes, teams have analysis, but the way how Bishop was stressing on the lack of a short-leg in place for Hope was excessive, about an over after he spoke about it NZ brought in a short -leg and started to bowl short pitch. That was the start of the collapse. I don't hear commentators from other teams giving out ideas to opposing teams how to get their players out
@CCW
Hope needs to study how how Dennis Amiss conquered the Windies quicks of the โ80s when he made double century against that line of attack.
@dayne
@CCW
They are there to commentate and analyze, not help WI. Teams know Hope's weakness balready. Did the players out there hear Bish, did coach/Mgt send someone out?
@CCW
No CC, like many of us your memory is getting foggy. Amiss' doubles were in '73 with Andy the only quick. Coming back in 76 after Mikey smashed his face his double was on the deadest pitch of the series when Mikey took 14. Andy, Vanburn and Co. Took one look @ the pitch and decided they were'nt going to strain their backs. 80's were Robin Smith (RIP) Gooch, Gowet and even Gatting
@CCW
It is not going to happen now, he stepped away from test cricket a number of years ago because he was targeted .
Did he and Sammy think all the nations had just forgotten about his weakness .
Shambolic.
@Conorboy
He was dropped, do you mean he stopped playing FC to regain a test spot?
@Brerzerk
The more salient point I was making was Amiss decided to get inside the line of the ball and play towards leg. Thus reducing the effectiveness of the ball being directed at his body.
Cant fault a batsman for scoring a double century on flat pitch. But itโs the same pitch that Holding got his 14 wickets.
At the end of the day any cerebral cricketer will try to out think his opponent. Shai needs to come up with a plan if he is as good as he wants us to believe!
