Keeping alone do not win games

It was in batting that josh won a few games for us

Is Imlach the best WI w/keeper since Dujon? Good keepers can determine the outcome of a match, as catches can win matches

Thu, Dec 4, '25 at 6:16 PM

@dayne

Imlach is a better keeper than Dujon

@methodic

Imlach is the best thing since slice bread although he has done nothing with bat thus far

Wicketkeeping in cricket does not have proper documentation to highlight some of its excellence. As a result many people do not have a clue in how to evaluate wicketkeepers. How many catches are dropped by a wicketkeeper is an obvious measure that is not documented.As I have said ad nauseam, wicketkeeping to spinners is much more difficult than keeping to fast bowlers.so I tend to judge wicketkeepers in how they fare when the spinners are on.In keeping to fast bowlers I look at their footwork and the smoothness of their glove work.I see some guys snatching at the ball and diving around because their footwork is delayed.

Unlike most cricket fans I am a fan of playing your best wicketkeeper rather than playing the person who is willing to back stop but who will make the most runs. The best West Indian wicketkeeper of this century is Ramdin and the best WI wicketkeeper I have seen is Jackie Hendriks.

Tevin Imlach has shown he is a very competent wicketkeeper as is the young man from Nevis Carlon Bowen-Tuckett.

@Dukes

good post bro

@Dukes

It's interesting that you rate Ramdin that highly. I am not saying he was not very good. I remember Dujon being critical of his movement at one time. I also remember him being dropped for Baugh even though he was the better batsman. Gray rated at least one local T+T keeper higher than him. I have not studied wicket keeping in detail but from where I sit I have not seen a better keeper in the West Indies than Imlach. I didn't see anyone before 1978.

@Dukes

So which one of our West Indies wicket keepers, recently I might add, have been 'back stoppers' as you refer to it?

Well if what we've had is how they come I'd much rather have a 'back stopper who scores heavily than a MS Dhoni style keeper.

It's only my thoughts.

@WIfan26

I am at a lost to respond to your childishness. Are you suffering from some complex or something?

Be relevant nuh

We need a keeper who can bat and win us games with his batting

At our stage we cannot afford to have the best keeper if he cannot bat

Thu, Dec 4, '25 at 8:23 PM

@Dukes

Your thinking when it comes to the role of a wicketkeeper is antiquated as if we continue to think that way we will not be able to compete with the top teams. Your wicketkeeper has to be able to bat and make runs along with capable if not spectacular glove work.

In terms of glovemen Jahmar Hamilton is the best in the WI. Imlach and Bowen-Tuckett follow him.
