What to expect:
Sunny and clear skies with no chance of rain for the entire week. The captain who wins the toss will, in all likelihood, will bowl first to take advantage of the pace-friendly conditions on offer. No captain has elected to bat first at the Basin Reserve since 2010

Interestingly, New Zealand have won only 23 Tests out of 69 matches at the Basin Reserve, having lost 22 and drawn 24 games.

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to field

Roston Chase: We would have bowled first as well, it is what it is. The wicket is green and you bowl first here, we have to bat well now. Batting 160-odd overs gives a lot of confidence, also bowling New Zealand out cheaply in the first innings.

Tom Latham: We are going to have a bowl. The recent tradition here is to bowl and we will stick to that. We have to figure out what the wicket does, it does get better to bat on later. It has been a quite couple of days. We have four changes - Mitchell, Phillips come in and couple of debutants.

Hodge for Athanaze is the real switch.

Tail too long although Anderson Phillip did show much application with the bat in India.

Pitch Report | Mark Richardson:
A really nice area for grass covering. This is not a green-spitting viper. I actually see a lot more brown in it. So I think it has to be drying out faster than other pitches. In light of what happened in the last case, I think you actually have to sort of think, what is this pitch going to do on day four and five? Will it actually brown off? Will it be good for batting? Will it be a little bit up and down? It should offer a little bit more life through the entirety of the game. And that's why I tend to like this Basin Reserve pitch as a Test match pitch. Not a bad toss to lose, but, it is New Zealand, and you do have a bit of a toss when you bowl, but you've got to bowl well.

Jacob Duffy to John Campbell, 1 run, Campbell and West Indies are off the mark. 131.5ks full and swinging in, worked towards mid-wicket and Campbell is away.

Foulkes to Brandon King, FOUR, shot! That should get him going. Full pitcher outside off, King has a good stride across to negate for the movement and then caresses the drive through the vacant cover region
