T&T on German travel advisory list: PoS, Chaguanas ‘no-go zones’
TRINIDAD and Tobago is one of four countries listed in a travel alert which was issued by Germany on Sunday.The other three countries listed in the alert were Greece, Thailand and Bulgaria.It stated that the countries faced increased political instability, crime, and shifting entry requirements and urged its citizens to be “extra cautious” when visiting the four countries.Visitors were also warned that, “Like in many Caribbean nations, the risk of being scammed by taxi drivers or falling victim to robberies remains high. Furthermore, tourists, particularly women, are advised to be cautious when visiting isolated areas and to avoid unlicensed taxis.”
The advisory stated that “Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean paradise known for its vibrant culture and natural beauty, is currently grappling with a national state of emergency that has been extended until January 2026.”The advisory emphasised that, “Crime remains a major concern in Trinidad and Tobago, with violent crime, including gang-related shootings, carjackings, and home invasions, posing significant threats to tourists.”Port of Spain and Chaguanas were labelled as “no-go zones” due to gang violence and visitors were told to exercise caution in these areas and to avoid travelling after dark.
