Most times you need real life to provide perspective and context to the rollercoaster of emotions that sport brings to the fore. But there are some days when there's nothing better than sport to provide an escape from the horrors of real life. And tragically that's where we find ourselves on the eve of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide.

@Chrissy

(On Smith) Steve's feeling a little bit unwell the last couple of days. He came in and gave it a crack this morning, but didn't feel like he could get up. He's headed off home. Pretty lucky we've got someone like Uzzie (Khawaja) who can step right in. Uzzie bats at four.

@Chrissy

still licks for england 😀

Brett Lee: "I see a lovely green coverage of grass - around 8mm length, about 5mm longer than what we saw at Brisbane. Traditionally, here in Adelaide, it's a beautiful wicket. The sun is shining, could be mid-30s today. Batting first here, average in day Test is about 414 in the first innings. The key will be to get in and bat well into day two. Can England find a way to fightback? This surface will offer a bit of quicks upfront, might be a little bit slow upfront, bit of tennis ball bounce. As the game goes on, we'll see it quicken up and we might see some spin day three and four."

Jofra Archer to Jake Weatherald, out Caught by Jamie Smith!! In the air and taken! 147.2kph, banged in short, keeps coming in with the angle at good pace. It's just below shoulder-high and Weatherald doesn't get into a good position as the ball hurries onto him. Plays the pull shot half-heartedly and the ball lobs up in the air off the top-edge. Jamie Smith comes in to complete a straightforward catch. Archer strikes for England! He passes the batter and then looks back to give him a stare

9.1

Brydon Carse to Head, out Caught by Crawley!! Sharp catch and Australia lose both their openers in quick succession! 137.6kph, full delivery outside off, Head is drawn forward into a drive and he may have been a bit early into the stroke. The bottom hand comes off the bat handle. It dies on the fielder but Crawley shows great reflexes at shortish cover-point. Dives to his left and takes a superb low catch with his left hand inches above the turf,

Head c Crawley b Brydon Carse 10(2cool [4s-1]

09:15 Local Time, 22:45 GMT, 04:15 IST: "Steve Smith has had a long discussion with Pat Cummins regarding his fitness for today's game. He walked away disconsolate after that discussion. There's a suggestion that he was hit in the head in training, there may be a possibility of concussion and everything is unconfirmed at this stage. But this is a late development here at the ground. It could mean a 11th hour change for the Australian team

@Chrissy

Find it striking that tall allrounder who debuted in England and played against us cannot find a place in that team. Know green is back but I think he's as good a bowler as who replaced Hazelwood and Cummins plus he can bar.

14.5

Stokes to Labuschagne, FOUR, much better! This was an overpitched delivery by Stokes and Labuschagne drills it through wide mid-off as the ball races away to the fence

14.3

Stokes to Labuschagne, FOUR, loose one by Stokes! Short ball at the hip, Labuschagne looks to nudge it away, but the ball flicks his thigh pad and races away to the fine leg fence
