Big problem facing West Indies cricket

is that Campbell, Athanaze and King are underperforming as test batsmen. All three have enough talent to be successful test batsmen. When you are competing at that level preparation is as important as talent. The definition of skill is "applying the right technique at the right time". Their failures are coming from something in their preparation and it is something that must be fixed with resolute dedication, continued video analysis and coaching. The three main ingredients of success are preparation, talent and luck. Luck sways in your direction when effort is consistently at a high level. However, when one is usually dismissed by some poor deliveries or events that appear to be fluky, we deem it is bad luck but it comes from poor preparation and/or application. For instance Darryl Mitchell was caught down the leg side in his last two innings. He could be seen cursing his luck but that is a consequence of him coming down the pitch and moving to far outside the off. Test cricket batting is an intense, quick thinking battle occurring over a long time. Our society is struggling to produce staffers that can shape test batsmen and players that can self progress into world class test batsmen in a three year period after being exposed to test cricket.

Campbell, King, and Athanaze are the best batsmen in the Caribbean along with Hope. That's why guys like Tage, Da Silva, and Holder are not required.

To be totally honest, in our present stock that I know of, it will be hard to find players that can compete with them for test spots. Despite his hard fighting 50 in the first test. Tage's technique has regressed since his early years. He is bringing his bat from 2nd slip to square leg and is a candidate to be caught off of both edges. If he don't correct this he will be lucky to average 15 going forward. Anderson has a similar problem. Andrews and Auguste are the two best young prospects I've seen. They will have to score heavily in the regional competition to demonstrate that they are ready to succeed at test level. Jason Mohammed and Dasilva both lack the ability to put pressure back on competent bowling attacks. So both are competing with Hodge and Tage as players that hold an innings together. Hope, Greaves and Hodge now pick themselves. The next best three we have is Campbell, King and Athanaze. I fear if we can't improve them then we will not be able to prepare Andrews, Auguste, Anderson and the other talented youths to succeed at test cricket batting.

Tage was very lucky to be selected for the last two WI tours, he is there because the Selector overlooked others. However, it seems like the WI batting is improving, they still have to be more consistent,
