@TanteMerle

What you deem as over confidence is what others deem as can’t play the short ball!!!

What’s a bit worrying is this exactly why Hope was dropped from the team in his first place.

He was starting to score runs and then got hit badly and he’s never recovered!!!

Pity he can’t get an IPL contract because what he needs is proper coaching I know for certain it’s not lack of hard work it must be mental from being hit before!!!

@WIfan26

The Indian players were pretty incompetent against the short ball in the SA series on pitches designed to nullify tall pacemen , and also in the NZ series last year, where they were both whitewashed. So I don’t think the IPL was going to help Shai when it does not help them. As I stated when some of the posters on this site were salivating over Shai in the CPL and ODI cricket, it is not economical to bowl the bouncer in limited overs. Fielding restrictions make it that way. So you will not be able to tell whether a player is competent against the short ball in a limited overs game. Even a massive fan of the short ball in Curtly Ambrose bowled off a shorter run in ODIs and barely bowled short, in fact the only occasion I can recall is when Dean Jones asked him to remove his wristbands. The IPL is not a comprehensive cricketing education in the way county cricket was for many decades. If DJ Bravo and Chris Gayle were good against the fast rising ball, they learnt those skills before the IPL, not during, as exemplified by the fact that both have WACA hundreds against very good and great Australian pace attacks in 2005 and 2009 respectively
