IMLACH CANNOT BAT

@WIfan26

I know right if only he could score a century and average 24 he would be great oh well bring back Josh

me eh even asking for a century....if he could make it to 40, i'd consider that progress. dude does make david williams look like viv richards.....and he's nowhere as good a gloveman as david williams

Joshua da silva, by the way, scored a half century on debut versus boult, wagner and southee and 6'8 85 kmph Kyle Jameison eh. josh can bat and is probably the best player of pace bowling in the region. imlach cannot. in fact, i'd argue da silva should real,ly be a walk in to this team purely as a batsman based on his exploits in the last 4-day tourney, and especially so as most of the top 6 have not put down performances to cement their place in the team

@Jumpstart

Going forward, Josh should be made to open with King and Campbell bat at 3! I'm sure Chase's spot is in doubt!

Tarnish cannot bat

Bing cannot bat

Hope cannot bat

Chase cannot bat

Greaves cannot bat

Hodge cannot bat

the last WIndian batsman who can be accused of being a semblance of a batsman was Sarwan and he was full of self doubt

most WIndians need psychological help as they get into adulthood to come to grips with their childhood issues and this is more evident if they become famous and or rich.

in the past there were understanding and empathetic adults in management and sometimes in the team to guide or offer advice.

that is now nonexistent

@XDFIX

I will be surprised if Imlach don't come good and be a cornerstone for the next ten years with gloves and bat.

@sudden

Interesting

If Imlach cannot bat how did he do so well in the R4D?

is it possible our bowlers cannot bowl or the pitches are sub standard?

@WI_cricfan

is it possible our bowlers cannot bowl or the pitches are sub standard?

Let me see if I can answer this one. If the pitches are sub-standard and he's making run on those pitches then he should have excelled in NZ on better pitches. Ergo - it is not the pitches.

@WI_cricfan

Because most of the attacks in the tournament were poor. The best attack this season was Trinidad’s and they lost both seales and Phillips to county cricket before the Guyana game. In that match, imlach could only make 33 against guys who were not regulars in the four day for TT. He can’t make runs against good attacks in difficult conditions…..not at the moment

@methodic

That’s actually a very good point from Sudden. Although I believe and there is evidence to believe that Da Silva is very good against pace bowling. You saw that against the quartet from NZ in his debut test and at Brisbane last year. His technique against spin leaves a lot to be desired, at least up to the last time we saw him in international cricket. He is not your typical West Indian batsman l, all flair, but you need somebody who when Mitchell Starc is steaming in at 145-150Ks will not get their stumps displaced after one or two deliveries

@sudden

I wouldn’t describe Sarwan as full of self doubt either. Sarwan’s first innings in test cricket was a nearly hundred versus Wasim and Waqar. Even if they were not as quick as the last time they came to the Caribbean, they were still very skillful cricketers, and playing in a side where he was under pressure immediately as Lara was on a break from the sport. Doubting cricketers don’t do do that. They’re overawed. I’ve never seen Sarwan overawed. I’ve seen him lose concentration, but never overawed

Wed, Dec 24, '25 at 8:33 AM

@Jumpstart

agreed. Sarwan was the last genuine international class batsman from the West Indies. Kraigg is not a truly international class batsman, neither is Hope. The rest are substandard.

Wed, Dec 24, '25 at 9:06 AM

@Jumpstart

I was more referring to his personality

Wed, Dec 24, '25 at 10:56 AM

@PalsofMine

Kraigg IS substandard, why distinguish him from the garbage pile?

Wed, Dec 24, '25 at 11:01 AM

The topic is wrong really, Imalch can bat, just not at this level. Like many cricketers, only the elite, exceptional can perform at the highest international level. I like that he is fit and works hard but I cant see him succeeding. Athanaze and a few others have the extra ability but maybe nee to work harder. I think Tage can bat but he seems to have some kind of mental block to score, which is the object of the game - to survive at the crease, soak up any pressure, but must seize opportunities to score in tests, and in limited overs eventually create those opportunities.

@jacksparrow

I agree, got to be able to bat to soak up so many balls!
