Toronto could see up to 15 cm of snow on Boxing Day

Boxing Day this year might require some extra planning, as meteorologists and weather agencies warn Toronto could see 10 to 15 centimetres of snow. ‘Give yourself lots of extra time’ if going anywhere, meteorologist warns. Environment Canada predicts freezing rain or snow, with a high of 0°C during the day and a low of -2°C at night on Boxing Day.

Thursday will see a high of 1 C, which may feel like -10 C in the afternoon with wind chill, Environment Canada’s website states. Northern winds of up to 20 km/h are expected throughout the day and gusts of up to 40 km/h are set to hit Toronto in the morning, the weather agency predicts. In the evening, the city will see a low of -2 C.

Whether or not the precipitation sticks to the ground will depend on the freeze line.

“These storms are really, really tricky to forecast.”

Season's Greetings, Narp...

Today, the winds coming off Lake Superior feel like minus 20°C after mixing with the Lake Erie chill.

Yesterday was nasty; we had about an inch of small ice pellets, then about half an inch of freezing rain, then about 8 cm of snow, shovelling with frozen hands within 5 minutes on the driveway.

Snowblowers are useless when such conditions occur; I just use that blue salt combination to melt the freeze. The snowplow goes by and clogs up everything in its way. The city gives homeowners 24 hours to clean up sidewalks, or they are fined, with the fine showing up on the tax bill.

I am fighting the City Water Department in the new year; they sent me a 1200 dollar water bill for two months of water on one of my rental properties in Hamilton. Just two apartments in this Victorian double-brick home. The meter must be frozen and cracked.

On Monday, communities in and around Hamilton and Niagara could see temperatures drop by as much as 10°C in just one to two hours. A new storm, a Colorado low, is on its way... Winds are forecast to blow southwest over Lake Erie, gusting between 90 and 110 km/h. The Niagara region will bear the brunt of this wind before it shifts to the northwest later in the day.

By late Monday, we'll see the winds gusting northwest off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, with peak gusts between 70 and 110 km/h. The damaging winds will also persist on Lakes Erie and Ontario, as well as throughout Prince Edward County, despite the shift in direction. You're going to get clobbered again.

Waves could reach up to 5 meters on the lakes as well, with 6-8 meter waves possible on southern Lake Superior. Folks along the shores should keep an eye out for sudden ice shoves.

We need to send some of this minus weather towards Googley's Florida...his 26°C...ha!! freezing his dhoti. 😂

........... Crazy Old man winter

Another, stronger storm is taking aim at the province as we close out 2025. This is likely to be a high-impact event, so be sure to keep a close eye on your local weather alerts and check back frequently for forecast updates. Hot on the heels of Ontario's Boxing Day storm, the atmosphere is primed to deliver another system in the form of a Colorado low. This event may produce 8-15+ hours of freezing rain, bringing 5-15 mm of ice accretion to the region

The system will approach the Great Lakes on Sunday, possibly reaching 'weather bomb' criteria as the centre of the low rapidly intensifies.

Blizzard conditions, an ice storm, and flooding rains are all possible in different corners of Ontario as this complex and hazardous system pushes through the province. In addition to the slippery conditions this will create, winds are also forecast to pick up, which increases the risk of power outages as the ice builds up on trees and power lines.

Areas hardest hit by the heavy snow could see up to 40 cm by the time the storm passes. There is the potential for 50+ cm of snowfall around the Timmins area. Folks should expect some road and highway closures.

While monthly rainfall averages across the south in December stay around 40-50 mm, we could see 50+ mm of rain locally north of Lake Erie, including the Grand River watershed, in a 12-hour period. Thunderstorms are also possible in southwestern Ontario as some instability inches into the region late Sunday through the pre-dawn hours Monday. Waves could reach up to 5 meters on the lakes as well, with 6-8 meter waves possible on southern Lake Superior. Folks along the shores should keep an eye out for sudden ice shoves.

We aren't chickens like you force-ripe yanks....

Ontario will ring in 2026 with widespread wind chills in the -20s across southern sections and -30s across northeastern areas through early New Year’s Day. Temperatures will dip close to -25ºC in Ottawa early Friday morning. Meanwhile, Timmins approaches temperatures near -30°C for overnight lows.

Emergency Management Ontario has also issued a public safety alert for the area, warning that emergency services may be unable to respond, advising that all non-essential travel be avoided.

So we're going dong to minus 25 deg C at midnight...Bermuda shorts weather.😎
