Standing in the team

USED TO DETERMINE SELECTION & CAPTAINCY

So what was Chase’s “standing in the team” at the time that he was appointed? Especially given the fact that he had not played test cricket for 2 years and was dropped because of poor performance before that.

What was Warrican’s “standing in the team”?

What are their respective “standing in the team”? today?

Is this “metric” still being used? Or is it now discarded?

What exactly does “standing in the team” mean?

A man not in the team had enough standing in the team to make the team. Once in the team his standing was so great he became cqqaptain of the team. On the other hand a man already in the team whose standing increased by beating Pakistan at home on a "gully track" was made only VC. Now, that VC's standing is so fantabulous he cyan mek di team. Did I mek dat mek sense?
