Pooran and bmobile continue youth push
Some of Trinidad and Tobago’s most promising young cricketers took another step in their development with the completion of the third edition of the bmobile Nicky P. Batting Academy held at the Kumar Rampat Cricket Academy in Point Lisas recently. The two-day developmental camp saw 60 participants exposed to high-performance batting instruction by the former West Indies T20 captain working alongside experienced coaches Kumar and Vasu Rampat.
Male and female players between the ages of 13 and 17, drawn from communities including Tobago, Cedros, Manzanilla, and Laventille, took part in the sessions. This year’s academy also marked a milestone, with the inclusion of eight female participants, highlighting the growing interest and opportunities for girls in competitive cricket.
Launched in 2023 by Pooran, the Nicky P. Batting Academy has steadily expanded, growing from 50 participants in its inaugural year to 60 athletes in 2025. As in previous editions, between ten and 15 standout performers will be selected for the six-month bmobile/Nicky P. scholarship program, which begins in January 2026. The scholarship offers approximately 256 hours of high-performance training, five days a week, covering fitness, technical skills, and mental conditioning.
