England needs Ottis back as bowling coach

Whenever Ottis has been there, the bowling has down well. I understand that they don't really have a bowling coach, and it showed in this series. Crap, crap and more crap served up by the bowlers, except when Archer played. They need to get Ottis back into the fold pronto.

@velo

Bowling coach, I disagree. Batting coach...

@Larr Pullo

I agree! It defies common sense to be bowling the same line length when you are getting smashed all around the park!

Oh please. Archer was as mediocre as the rest of them.

I have never seen a bowler so over-hyped as this guy.

@SnoopDog

not true. Archer has been the most economical pace bowler at 3 runs an over across both Australia and England he offered the most control for the attack and he took 9 wickets at 27 without playing the bowling friendly lottery 4th test. If the other English bowlers barring Stokes and Tongue had given him support and shown that level of control it would be a different series.

Test cricket bowling is as much about building pressure and that England has lacked.

@SnoopDog

I heard you when you said, "never seen", as your comment suggests just that, you did not see him this series.

@Joshua

The only time he bowled reasonably well was in that 4th innings when the game was already dead.

Archer has played 18 Test matches - taken 60 wickets at an ave of 30.10.

Mediocre and over-hyped.

Not sure what bowling plans they had going into the series but insisting on bowling wide outside the off-stump only work against their own batting but cough up nothing but boundaries when they are bowling. And they keep doing it. And the field setting is another atrocious element. It seems the English brain thrust lost every cricketing sense on their way over or maybe they did not have any in the first place.

They will need to address that set-up going forward as it surely aint working and its blatantly obvious.

@StumpCam

You have to have basic ability and skills to be coached

Tue, Jan 6, '26 at 12:20 PM

@Brerzerk

Well, I think they thought they were bowling in English conditions and there were no need to make the necessary adjustments.

A 30 avg is mediocre?

Tue, Jan 6, '26 at 12:58 PM

@SnoopDog

I guess that makes anyone with an average over 30 as wutlis. Smh

@Larr Pullo

A asking the same question.
