FORGET POORAN

Ex-WI selector, player say seeking Pooran return ‘divisive’, ‘dangerous’ move. In a frank critique, two respected former West Indies figures have launched a scathing attack on Cricket West Indies (CWI) for reportedly considering asking Nicholas Pooran to reverse his international retirement for the upcoming T20 World Cup.The comments from former selector Roland Butcher and former opener Philo Wallace made on the Voice of Barbados’ Mason and Guest radio programme, condemned the very idea as “divisive,” “a dangerous precedent,” and a move that would “tear that team apart.”

However, former WI selector Butcher, known for his measured analysis, did not mince words. “I would not be bending over backwards chasing that player to come in to play.The fact that he’s retired suggests that he doesn’t want to play. If he doesn’t want to play, well, that’s fine.”He argued that such a move would undermine the entire squad ethos. “It sets a dangerous precedent for the rest of the team and for any young player coming forward,” Butcher explained. “You’re going to go chase (a retired player) to select them in front of a young player who is really desperate to play and working his socks off to play.”

Wallace questioned the very foundation of the selection system, whether it must resort to recalling retired players. “We can’t be so bad at selecting players that we can go ask Pooran if he wants to come and play in a World Cup. It doesn’t look good for West Indies cricket.”Both agreed the reported approach sets a “bad precedent,” with Wallace adding that the official responsible “should take stock of themselves and don’t repeat it.”The two men were also critical of the number of absentees for the WI team’s T20 series against Afghanistan beginning next week

Speaking on WESN TV on Saturday, CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe said: “I could definitely say that we have probed. Pooran was quite aware that the World Cup was upcoming and his decision to retire would have been with that knowledge. So, we probed and we saw that he mentioned not too long ago that he was quite happy to stick to his decision, so I could say that we probed.”

Did Pooran call CWI? Nooooo

Wallace questioned the very foundation of the selection system, whether it must resort to recalling retired players. “We can’t be so bad at selecting players that we can go ask Pooran if he wants to come and play in a World Cup. It doesn’t look good for West Indies cricket.”

Just look at the CWI (ICC) standings; you wouldn't ask such a stupid question.Also check the win-loss column over the last 5 years.

Wallace an Butcher absolutely on point ...what is there not to understand??....some might say desperate times requires desperate measures in regards to the " probing" or reaching out whatever they want to call it but i totally reject that ....CWI are a dysfunctional embarrassment to people of the caribbean ...just when yuh think they can't get any worse!

@CCW

That is the constant problem with the WI. We are so weak mentally off and on the field. Being mentally prepared as an organization as a whole leads to poor on the field results.

But having an unqualified coach is not...

@sgtdjones

roland butcher is a respected West Indian?😂😂. Which west indies team he play for? one season for barbados and caps for england....give me a break

@sgtdjones

This is the most honest statement ever made. Pooran is a divisive and and destructive individual. and should be kept far away from any WI team. he will erode, and destroy the camaraderie, in the team in a couple of days.

BEGGING a player to return is a big mistake, i don't even think Pooran's contribution to the team would make a any difference to the eventual outcome, begging him will only contribute to him adopting a larger than life attitude and cause problems within the team dynamic

what a mistake to make

These same people would fall over deyself to beg Bethel or Archer to play for WI if the opportunity arose.

Fuh dem so, young players really desperate to play and working their socks off to play would go out the window with nary a thought in that scenario.

Not to mention either of those players would be seen as role models of virtue and loyalty promoting team harmony and cohesion.

@imusic

Tellin yuh. Pooran is a damn fool if he even considering playing for WI under the current management. After they gone certainly but not now

A weak and shameful display. Another reason why those in the hierarchy of CWI who advised and promoted this move should resign pronto.

I hope Yagga was not part of this aposematic signal of major weakness.

@Jumpstart

The only management alyuh Titties comfortable with is if it's Tittie management. I agree with Butcher and Wallace. Leave Pooran right where he is., he's happy, and everyone else is happy. The focus should be on putting all your energies and focus into those who are committed to WI cricket.

https://revonews.ai/news/contacting-retired-pooran-was-desperate-from-windies-dujon

Former West Indies wicket-keeper, Jeffrey Dujon, believes it could be out of desperation that the Caribbean team opted to reach out to former limited overs captain Nicholas Pooran, to convince him to overturn his retirement decision ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Dujon says whenever an athlete retires from the sport, their mindset also changes.

Dujon joins in.....cuss him and say him not a respected player too.

Bullshit! Us Muddies more likely to cuss our own management. We don't defend bullshit, even if it's a fellow countryman...
