What does the latest travel advisory to Jamaica mean for you?

Start Date Jan. 17, 2026

What’s changing

Updated travel advisory warning travelers to “exercise increased caution” in Jamaica due to increased risks of crime, lack of adequate healthcare and natural disaster risks.

What will happen?

U.S. citizens and government employees should not “use public buses or drive between cities at night,” and should avoid travel to high-risk areas. Jamaica is still recovering from damage sustained by Hurricane Melissa late last year, so infrastructure in certain areas of the island has not yet been rebuilt since the hurricane. This means U.S. citizens should be careful heading to areas of the island damaged by Hurricane Melissa.

Who will it affect?Travelers to Jamaica.

---------------------

I have traveled to Jamaica umpteenth times from the States going back the last 19 years... Unless I am going to offer financial, physical or some other type of assistance, I would NOT travel to ANY Island for vacation that's still recovering and rebuilding from being hit by a devastating Hurricane recently.

Level 2 (of4)Exercise Increased Caution

Seems like a fair warning, all things considered.

well healthcare has gone to the dogs and we have real issues re crime.

example - last week three hotel workers charged for cloning room keys and stealing money etc from guests.

These three were allowed to stay in hotels because of post Melissa conditions.
