Ontario minus 30 deg C and 30 cm of snow.

Expect significant travel disruptions in southern Ontario Sunday as significant winter storm threatens 20-30 cm of snow

A significant winter storm moves in Sunday-Monday, with cold Arctic air producing fluffy, fast-accumulating snowfall

GTA and Golden Horseshoe: Widespread 20–30+ cm, with peak snowfall Sunday evening and major impacts along the QEW, 401, 404, and 407 highways

Lake-enhanced snow is a key wild card: An easterly flow off Lake Ontario could focus a heavy band from Hamilton to Pickering, creating whiteouts and boosting totals

Wind gusts near 60 km/h will cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in open areas and along the Lake Ontario shoreline

Eastern Ontario sees 10–25 cm (Ottawa 10–15 cm), with travel disruptions continuing into early Monday

Road and school closures are possible Monday, depending on cleanup

Ample moisture streaming northward will collide with frigid air draped over the eastern half of Canada, creating the setup for widespread heavy snowfall across the region.Temperatures in the -10s to -20s mean fluffy, fast-accumulating snow that snowplows struggle with.

Snow begins Sunday morning and will peak in the afternoon and evening, then continuing into Monday morning.Wind gusts are forecast to be close to 60 km/h through Sunday evening, creating widespread blowing snow, especially in open areas and near Lake Ontario.

For southern Ontario, the heaviest totals will be centred on locales near and across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the Golden Horseshoe and Niagara region, extending to parts of southwestern and eastern Ontario. Anywhere from 20-30+ cm is possible.

Any snow that falls during this system will stick around with temperatures solidly below the freezing mark through the end of the month.

Ontario is the midst of its coldest temperatures this winter, and for some, their chilliest in years.

Kirkland Lake, Ont., bottomed out at an extremely cold, -43.7 C low early Saturday morning. It occurred as much of the province endured through a lobe of the polar vortex that has weakened, and has been displaced from its position in the Far North.

The bone-chilling, overnight value recorded in Kirkland Lake was its coldest since Jan. 21, 1984 (-44.0 C).
