U19 this was not a disgraceful loss

The crucial point in the game though was the get-out-shot of Carter.

These young charges need to be nurtured. A very good bunch

@InHindsight

How much points we got for that?

Wed, Jan 28, '26 at 10:46 AM

@InHindsight

Agreed. I think had Carter tempered himself he would of gone on to score another hundred.

But you live and you learn.

I could of seen the hurt in his eyes when he was out. Passion. And with skills would be good.

Yes it was a great effort by the youngsters. Just too many dot balls, that placed too much pressure on the lower order. Some good talent among this group of players. As it is our NRR is in the negative and we will need not only for AFG and SLA to lose, but lose badly to IRE and RSA. Realistically we are out.

@InHindsight

There is definitely talent in this U19 team. Disappointed that they didn't go on to win but there is no shame in losing to Australia. Hopefully the best players from this bunch can one day represent the senior team.

I posted since Sunday that talent can't flourish under the burden of lack of preparation. Vs lower tier Lreland there were 90 dot balls at the 22 over mark! The #11 Dawes batted with more purpose and sense than most of the top order even though the last pair should've realized there were 5 more overs to bat when he got out.

fact is that our senior team could probably never get that close to Oz

Wed, Jan 28, '26 at 2:19 PM

@PalsofMine

And what difference would that make? You get points for coming close?

@natty_forever

The consolation if we don't make any further is that it is a wonderful bunch.

My fear however is that they will not be nurtured. It my my since wish that this group get the attention that the last two U19 WCteams got. Alas the board is as broke as it as ever been. Regional governments and corporate citizens need to fill in the breach.

@InHindsight

My fear as well.

Very proud of these yutes ....no points put plenty positives going up against a much more advanced an experienced Oz team in their development.....Windies raw talent is as good as any just imagine if they had the benefit of playing in England,India or Oz but sadly in most cases their talent will not be fulfilled be cause of our inadequate structure!

@CCW

Real coaching is needed. Unlike the senior group these youths are naturally talented and need old school coaching now to instill discipline. Game situational thinking have to be drilled into them now.

Someone like Hoops or Sarwan should work with the batsmen on batsmanship. They have to learn to move the fielders around to get singles.

From what I've seen and other reports this squad is plagued with the usual elementary schoolboy issues:

  1. Wrong personnel in the various fielding podition. A direct reflection and team management that the best suited players are not put in various positions.
  2. Poor ground Fielding and catching overall. This seem to be a problem in all WI teams of these modern times.
  3. High percentage of dot balls. Evidently a very talented bunch but obviously, gap finding and running between wickets still a WI problem.
  4. Fitness
