...issue. Has the CWI abandonned its responsibility to communicate effectively with its stakeholders?. Is the CWI management on autopilot?

Breaking news

Visa issue prevents Hetmyer from travelling with the West Indies team to India

By Sean Devers

At 29, and looking more mature and responsible with three consecutive ‘big’ scores against South Africa, the left-handed Guyanese Shimron Hetmyer has found himself embroiled in another controversy.

A reliable source has confirmed that the Berbican is not in India with the West Indies team.

Hetmyer missed the warm-up against Afghanistan yesterday in the ICC 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup because he did not have his passport with his India Visa with him.

Hetmyer, who has seven fifties and averages 22.79 from his 75 T20Is, travelled to Afghanistan and South Africa with another passport but reportedly did not have the 'old' one with a Visa to enter India in his possession.

It is unclear where that passport is, and his absence could disrupt Head Coach and lone selector Darren Sammy’s plans as his charges prepare for their opening game against Scotland on February 7.

Hetmyer had finally broken a streak of 10 T20 games (including those he played with Vipers) without a 50 with four good scores leading up to the World Cup, batting at number three.

His recent form, consistency, participation in the IPL in India and his ability to play spin make him a key component in the planning as the West Indies aim to win their third T20 World Cup and first since 2016 under the captaincy of Sammy.

Hetmyer was selected for the last World Cup but did not play in any of the games, and has a history of indiscretions, including missing two flights when he was selected for the Australian tour.

It is hoped that Hetmyer gets the other Passport with his India Visa in time for the game on February 7.

West Indies are in Group ‘C’ along with England, Scotland, Nepal and Ireland.

@bobby

Thanks.

But how burdensome it is for CWI to communicate this development which has the potential to impact negatively on the composition of the T20 team?

Did his VISA expire? - He seems to not have VISA problems for IPL.

Instead of finding fault with every thing, why you don’t post any of your success in life.

Communicate yes but from what i read above the player lost his visas and maybe they don't want that to be made public.

Until I saw Bobby's post, there I was thinking that Hetmyer had committed an egregious act in South Africa which necessitated police detention which prevented him from travelling with the rest of the team.

The matter has been resolved.

Since we are always quick on the draw answer these: at what point in time did CWI deem it useful to select Hetmyer to the World Cup squad? Where was the player when he learnt of said selection?

It is doubtful Hetmyer himself expected to be selected given that he had returned from the UAE injured from ILT20 duty and thereafter upon being declared fit went back to Dubai having been selected WI Afghanistan series. All of which didn't require his "Indian visa".
