Bradman or Viv ?

Thu, Feb 5, '26 at 12:28 PM

Both left the scene on the same cricket ground. The Oval South London. One needed to score 50 plus to keep their 50 test average. The other needed just 4 runs to keep his 100 batting average. One failed the other succeeded but the one who failed is considered the greater performer.

You would have to be over 100 years old an have seen both of them to come to a reasonably informed conclusion ....Viv was great no doubt but Bradman was considered a phenomenon an his stats which are extraordinary bears that out....you then have to consider was he as good as his stats indicate or was the bowlers of his era with the exception of a few not great!!

@CCW

However, he was 40 points above his peers, was the distance that wide with Viv. So regardless, obviously his (Brad's) peers didn't find the bowling as he did.

@natty_forever

fair point.....an almost every 3rd inns he scored a 100.....an had more than twice the amount of 100's than 50's which is staggering!!
