Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shatters records enroute epic 175

175 by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the first 150-plus score in an U19 World Cup playoffs game, the previous highest being Nicholas Pooran's 143 against Australia in the 2014 quarter-final in Dubai. The previous highest in a final was Unmukt Chand's 111* against Australia in Townsville in 2012.

14 years, 316 days - Sooryavanshi is now the youngest to register an U19 World Cup hundred; the record was previously held by Babar Azam, who did that at 15 years, 92 days against West Indies at Palmerston North in 2010. Only Sooryavanshi (4) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) have scored hundreds in Youth ODIs before turning 15 (where known).

Forget him.

The one to watch is this dude from Turkey

Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, 14, a Turkish grandmaster, created some waves among chess elites at the traditional Masters Tata Steel Chess Tournament in the Netherlands. Earlier in the competition, which opened on January 17 and concludes today, he was tied for second place in the classical tournament after 10 rounds. By last Thursday, however, he had dropped to sixth place. Nevertheless, he drew with some seasoned competitors and outplayed Arjun Erigaisi, a 2700 participant, among the highest FIDE ratings worldwide.

Erdogmus was introduced to chess by his kindergarten teacher and began to play at age six. He soon became a prodigy after he won the Under-8 European Chess Championship in 2019 winning all eight of his games. He earned his International Master title at the 3rd FIDE Council in 2022, following a commendable performance at the Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Tournament in Serbia. That same year he won the ChessKid Youth Speed Chess Championship online tournament.
