rhe batting power play was completely wasted and it took the brilliance of Hety and co, some poor bowling and average fielding to get us to 180.

teams these days are scoring and chasing down 200 and more

we should be fine in this game, but against stronger opposition this strategy wouldnโ€™t work

just keeping it real

Well did not see the PP but based on the score it was poor. However even in the last 5 we looked tame. Agreed against tougher opposition we will be destroyed! First game, just need to win this one!

Surprised Sammy dropped Chase but it's a good move.

@brians_da_best

Very much so. Against top opponents this match would have been gone.

We needed to be proactive in the powerplay...we gave up significant advantage there, The last 5 overs with plenty of resources on hand we should have scored about 80 runs.

This was very poor planning and use of resources.

Sammy lacks tactical awareness and we have a skipper who is never proactive.

This does not inspire confidence.

@voiceofreason

I did not see your post.

I beg to differ with regard to Chase. West Indies would be better served with a frontline bowler. We have surplus batting resources.

I keep wondering, why are we practicing what will not work. This effort is a far cry from what is required in terms of performance and strategy. I maintain we will need 90 in the power play against top teams . We can't play both Sheperd and Forde and neither is a lock to bowl. Chase must play.

@Courtesy

Frontline bowler is a bit stretching it with Chase. Bits n pieces just like Forde and Shep but at least they can hit it a mile.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 6:52 AM

Anything less than 50 in the powerplay wonโ€™t cut it agains better teams.

maybe we could split Hope and King, and use one of the power hitters to utilise the power play. We have enough guys to tee off at the end

@brians_da_best

@brians_da_best

50! You guys still living in a fantasy world. You need 90.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 6:55 AM

@voiceofreason

You are correct with your assessment.

Had they gone hard and lost a cluster of wickets it would have been another story. I think they were feeling they way into the tournament given the opposition knowing full well they have depth and explosive batters. I don't think it will be the case every game though

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 6:59 AM

@methodic

I would have Forde as a pinch hitter to bat with Hope. Any sensible team would open the bowling with spin against King...he is that weak against spin. This would create a spot at the back end for Sampson. We will open the potential to get more production this way.

As a general rule on a featherbed...you are supposed to score 200+ knowing our bowlers can go for plenty We left power on the bench..

Any good team would have taken the advantage during our bowling powerplay.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 7:05 AM

@voiceofreason

Bro Chase lacks mental fortitude.and he has not progressed with his bowling Imho.His strategy is to fire the offspin to the batsmen pads and he is too predictable. Like JC, he should never have been on the side.

Btw, I think if Sammy needed a reserve keeper Fletcher offered a lot more.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 7:08 AM

@Courtesy

To win the tournament you have to be able to score 250, the only way West Indies can do that is to score 90 in the power play.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 7:14 AM

@methodic

You risk losing too many wickets aiming for 90. I would give myself 60-65 with a minimum of 1 wicket with the strategy of not lifting our foot from the gas for the duration of the 20 0vers. There is enough batting power in the team to implement this strategy.

Because of a lack of bowling depth I can see why you want to implement this strategy...but it is fraught with danger.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 7:21 AM

And tell Sammy stay in the.dugout. every time he goes out on the field the momentum changes.

Sat, Feb 7, '26 at 7:27 AM

This is why I said in another post that 182 wasn't enough. Our bowling attack is weak and dropping catches certainly doesn't help
