Partial Freezing: The American Falls are more prone to freezing due to shallower water, while the Canadian Horseshoe Falls never completely stop flowing.

The 1848 Freeze: The only recorded time the Falls completely stopped was in March 1848, when an ice jam at the source (Lake Erie) blocked the water for 30 hours.

Ice Bridges: In extreme winters, ice accumulates in the gorge below the falls, creating a massive "ice bridge" that can look like a glacier.

No, Niagara Falls is not man-made. It is a natural wonder formed approximately 12,000 years ago at the end of the Ice Age by melting water from glaciers that formed the Niagara River and the Great Lakes. While the falls are natural, human engineering has altered the flow for power generation and reduced erosion.
