Are there any individual match winners in this West Indies squad? Is so name them.

Or does it always have to be a team effort?

@InHindsight

side is the anthesis of the 2016 team even though its aim and structure is an attempt at replication. we have no knockout game expert like icon, no hitter like gayle, no genius like badree, no allrounder as consistent or skilled as DJ, no crisis manager like ramdin.....the coach is virtually the captain so nothing changes there. even if pooran was there, we can't rely on him to be measured like gayle....he's all or nothing and dies on his shield, which is commendable in terms of bravery but it doesn't help us, most of the time because he usually comes in in trouble and you need calm heads during that time

Right now, CWI doesn’t have a high-performance culture.

They’ve got people who start, stall, and drift.

There are gaps in basic work ethic and follow-through, and priorities shift too quickly.

The result is a cycle of repeating the same processes without learning from outcomes or improving execution.

So it's team for you guys? And doubtful at even that, right?

a team certainly. a bad team but a team none the less. for WI to win against the top teams, hope, heymeyer and rutherford have to perform in every one of those games because we haven't been defending well(the caveat is that shamar wasn't there ands that is a big BUT) so we have to make decent totals. if we had a second pacer like shamar who could really frighten opposition with pace, have them thinking about self preservation instead of hitting that would have been great. alzarri is a big loss

@Jumpstart

bottom line is no total is safe against the top teams with our bowling attack ....in most cases esp against the top teams we have to chase cos obviously the batting is our strength...unless conditions dictate can't see no team choosing to bat when winning the toss against us!

very interesting replies, this team can compete, the batting is good enough. The problem is they did not add enough variety to an already weak bowling attack. They could have included Simmonds to send the ball wide outside the off to batsmen that are very adept at hitting the ball from outside off and belting it on the onside boundaries. Springer ability to bowl yorkers could have also been useful. The biggest problem we have is that they keep over rating our present bowlers. Hosein is not a top bowler in the world. I will only bowl him with the new ball. Shepherd cannot contain world class batsmen. Forde is good when there is swing, other than that he can be a liability. Seales has yet to bowl with any real conviction in t20..

From reading all your posts nobody here should be disappointed if WI doesn't get past this round.

Just sayin

@InHindsight

Any one of our batsmen can be a match winner on their day!!!

The bowlers not so much but with the confidence gained from the first game and this being a WC I believe anything is possible!!!

A WC Trophy and IPL money should be great motivation for all of our players #Rally

they're missing a trick not using hosein in the opening overs. but he really needs to expand his repertoire as well. the biggest issue with this side is that sammy is the tactical nerve center of this side. The 2016 team had Bravo and Ramdin, two of the greatest cricket brains in t20 cricket in the WI over the last two decades, and also the Universe Boss and Jerome Taylor, two extremely underrated cricket tacticians. This side does not have somebody who will try something different t important stages in the match. Case in point, WI played SA at Nagpur in the 2016 tournament. Mr 360 walked in and this is a dude did beat holder sammy and co to skin just over a year ago in the 50 over WC in Australia. DJ bowls a slower off cutter that de villears plays on to and loses his off stump. SA were struggling but if there was any man in the side could take them from a small total to an insurmountable total, it was him. And it proved vital because the pitch was dead slow and the WI won off the 2nd to last ball chasing a small total. I don't see anybody in this side who is willing or able to try something out of the box to turn the course of a game. Sammy follows a script. we saw it during the last world cup down here and we are seeing it now. Using hosein outside the power play hasn't worked but he's going down with it

@Jumpstart

I agree with you there, Hope, Holder, Powell and Sammy are all orthodox thinkers

@InHindsight

No genuine superstar match winners but Hety could possibly become that an i guess on current form he will be the prized wicket for oppositions.

@CCW

Agreed. Unless Shamar can pull off several Brisbane miracles in a row, the bowling really does not inspire confidence. Hoping they prove me wrong. As for the batting, it inspires more confidence but scoreboard pressure in chasing against teams with international bowling is going to be massive. Dont forget, those teams would have batted first against our potentially weak bowling!

@WIfan26

Including JC and Sampson?
