Rowley: cannot feed my chickens, pigs and sheep

Former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has criticised Chief Secretary Farley Augustine over governance in Tobago and the impact the out of service Blue Wave Harmony is having on his operations.Rowley said Chief Secretary Farley Augustine wanted and secured all 15 seats in the Tobago House of Assembly and the two Parliamentary seats so that no voice could question decisions. He said the situation has led to challenges for producers on the island.

He said he operates pens with thousands of chickens, pigs and sheep and cannot access feed because there is no feedmill in Tobago. He said his weekly trucking arrangements have been disrupted due to reduced sailings and the absence of a fixed schedule for the cargo vessel serving the island.Rowley said the disruption has placed his livestock at risk as feed supplies depend on shipments from Trinidad. He said, "For most people it is just talk and opinions and appearances but for me, one of the few PRODUCERS of anything in Tobago it is a real crisis since I have pens full of thousands of live animals ( chickens , pigs and sheep) for which I can’t get feed because no feedmill exist in Tobago and my weekly trucking is destroyed because the boat has no schedule in a significantly reduced frequency."

He said despite these developments he continued to invest time and resources in Tobago. He said the current situation represents a crisis for his business and other producers who rely on inter-island transport for supplies.Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has not responded publicly to the claims.

May 25, 2017...Rowley sorry for Tobago seabridge woes

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday apologised to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, but particularly to the people of Tobago, for what was happening between the Port of Port of Spain and the Port of Scarborough.

However, Rowley said the Government had to make “significant interventions” on the port to assure that the country did not continue to be exploited.

“I saw it being said in an editorial that the Government is being penny wise and pound foolish by not caving in to those who will attempt to have their way on their terms. Not as long as I am Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago will persons have their way on their terms, even if we have to suck salt,” he said.

Aug 10, 2017 ..Rowley says sorry to nation for ferry fiasco...again

PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley has for a second time apologised for ongoing problems with the Trinidad and Tobago seabridge. At a news conference on May 26, Rowley apologised to the nation, and particularly to Tobago, for what was then the height of a breakdown in cargo and passenger services between the islands. He also at that time laid out a plan for bringing the seabridge up to par, including Government's intention to acquire medium vessels while it searched for a means to build and own its own supercarrier. Rowley yesterday expressed regret for the latest ferry fiasco, this time, the forced cancellation of the Ocean Flower II passenger carrier that was due to join the seabridge fleet since August 1.

Fixin’ T&T reminds the population that under this Minister and the present PATT board:The Superfast Galicia left the shores of T&T with no arrangements in place for an efficient replacement.

The Atlantic Provider and the Trinity Transporter were imposed as short term but “reliable” solutions.

The “crooked” deal involving the Cabo Star and the Ocean Flower 2 was sealed with a company of questionable repute ahead of any PATT inspection of the vessels.

Even up to the day of the announcement of the cancellation of the contract for the Ocean Flower 2, Minister Sinanan and the PATT board refused to come clean about the failed mechanical state of said vessel.

Instead, in the face of evidence about its troubled journey available for all to see, Mr Sinanan and the board attempted to hood wink the population into believing that the cancellation was due to timelines breached.

The Prime Minister was speaking following a four-hour meeting which he led with Cabinet members, the Tobago chamber and other Tobago stakeholders yesterday, at the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort, aimed at reviving Tobago's economy.
