a surge in violent gang-related crime and credible intelligence of planned attacks on members of the protective services.

After the SOE ended, they released the gang leaders.

Murders and crime started an upward movement.

The latest proclamation follows the Government’s failed attempt to pass its proposed Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO) legislation in the Senate. On January 27, the administration was unable to secure the required three-fifths majority, after neither Opposition nor independent senators supported the bill.

The government tried with restriction legislation (ZOSO) in PNM areas and was voted down by the Independents, who were nominated by the PNM president.

 The government has a duty to act when credible threats emerge.

The murder rate is actually on par with last year's lower rate...basically days and murders fighting for first place...so it's nothing like before when we were recording 5-600 murders..the rate is around 42-45% lower than 2024..last year's rate was 42% lower..as of yesterday before the announcement of the SOE it was at a projection of about 350+ for the year...

Just not allowing it to pick up too much momentum while other strategies and laws are being developed...

I like the idea that a rate of 1 a day or just over 350 for the year is being taken this seriously...the last government set and broke murder records year after year and oversaw our highest murder rate ever in 2024..for 2025 we not even in the top 10 and about 5 points seperated T&T and Bim's murder rates albeit a lower year for T&T and a higher one for Bim .

The current rate is almost half of 2024..but enough for it to be seen as an emergency for the current Government.. records upon records had to be broken for the last one to do similar. This is some good nipping while more permanent measures are put in place..it's great.

Also there's no curfew component to say crime would be down because people are forced to be inside..its all about precision targeting of perpetrators and proper utilization of the powers, detention and otherwise..what I can guarantee you is that T&T's murder rate is going to be even lower this year..

The way things going in Bim they could actually end up higher ..and this still is only possible because of the decrease, no way this would've been possible pre 2025...no matter how Bim tun-up..

Currently Bim is looking to break 20/100k going up and T&T is looking to break 20/100k going down..Bim finished last year at about 19+/100k and T&T about 25+/100k

I should also mention other islands who's rates have been higher than T&T for years even before now, I and all was shocked !! Fuss ah doh mind dey business, all them 'Saints'....

With an SOE as a stop gap measure at this stage, it simply means therefore the current government is putting a higher value on citizens' lives and I really respect and appreciate that.

Just some perspective.

@bravos

from that comparison it seems like Kamla doing a better job of crime management than MAM

@sudden

Kamla not letting dem rest and this latest SOE in the current circumstances proves it..if ZOSO was approved things would've been even better by now..its a relative few jackasses causing problems over and over.
