Powergen, QPCC lead parade of innings wins in TTCB Premier I Division
All four matches of the T&T Cricket Board Premier One Division round five produced innings wins over the weekend. Powergen and Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC), both leading the pack with impressive form this season, led the way, with KFC Clarke Road United and Bess Motors Marchin Patriots following suit.In Barrackpore, Avinash Mahabirsingh stole the spotlight from century-makers Jeremy Solozano and Cephas Cooper as Powergen maintained the pressure exerted on the home team, Victoria. Resuming on 66 for one in response to Powergen’s 450 for five declared, Victoria was bowled out for a decent 210, with Johann Jeremiah scoring 78. Mahabirsingh was the star of Powergen’s bowlers with six for 68, as the Penal giants took a 240-run first-innings lead.
Batting a second time, it was Leonardo Julien’s time to shine. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who was included in the West Indies team as backup to Shai Hope in 2023, made 85, but the hosts were bowled out for 180. Powergen won by an innings and 60 runs. Mahabirsingh completed a "ten-for" with five for 56 in the second innings to finish with match figures of 11 for 124.
At the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain, the home team, resuming on 338 for four, declared at 401 for nine, with out-of-favour wicketkeeper and Red Force captain, Joshua Da Silva, making 57. The Parkites carried a lead of 315 into the second innings.In their second turn at the crease, Preysal were bowled out for 204, with Nick Ramlal their best batsman with 73. Bryan Charles, who took a "four-for" in the first innings, finished with eight wickets in the match, taking four for 69 in the second, as Queen's Park won by an innings and 111 runs.At Marchin, Charlieville, Evin Lewis resumed on 200 and Bess Motors Marchin Patriots resumed on 351 for three in response to Merryboy’s 139. Lewis went on to score 232 not out as Patriots reached 400 for four declared.
