KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaican stars Andre Russell, Rovman Powell and Brandon King are expected to be the main targets for the new owners of the returning Jamaica franchise in the Caribbean Premier League.

US-based Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, whose takeover was made official last week, are eyeing the former Jamaica Tallawahs captains as they seek to build a strong squad for the 2026 season.

Kingsmen representative Faisal Mirza told the Jamaica Observer that Russell, Powell and King are “very important to any team they become a part of.”

Double T20 World Cup champion Russell is currently contracted to the reigning champions Trinbago Knight but last July expressed an interest in returning to the Jamaica franchise if they made a return to the CPL.

Former West Indies captain Powell told the Observer in 2023 that “hopefully, I’ll be back soon” after leaving for the Barbados Royals.

Windies T20 captain King played with the Royals on 2025 and the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in 2024, having captained the Tallawahs in its last season in 2023.

Mirza says discussions are underway for several Jamaican players and coaches as well as from overseas.

The draft for this year’s CPL, set for early August to September 20, is expected to take place in the coming months.

@Slipfeeler

Don't think they will have an issue getting Russell and King.

Similarly, I am sure that TKR would love to have Lewis as an opener.

@voiceofreason

He still has something in the tank. At least with the Ball, offensively not too great.

@voiceofreason

That's tragedy..... Jamaica should build team on the basis of calibre, performance and form.....not past accolades.....Russels,if at all eat food....as power hitter coach....not as players........

Better a washed up Russell playing than the usual washed up South African or Englishman who dominate the CPL and as far as I am concerned, just make the league substandard.

@voiceofreason

It’s CPL, not Windies! Duh!😜
