PARKITES’ CROWN
QPCC clinch Prem 1 title with innings win
Furlonge, the former Red Force coach who returned to Queen’s Park last season, credited the all-round approach of the players to the team’s success. “We set certain standards, the discipline in terms of practice. The sessions were intense. We took that intensity from practice sessions into games on a weekend,” he told the Express. “This will be six games we have won outright for the season.”
The latest success yesterday was anchored by two emerging players, brothers Kyle Ramdoo and Mikkel Govia. Both hit hundreds as QPCC 1 declared their first innings at 421 for four, giving them a lead of 166 and valuable points. They added 62 together for the third wicket, with opener Ramdoo, who began the day on 83, going on to make 104 (nine fours, one six) before he was dismissed by Damion Joachim (270 for three). But then Govia and Amir Jangoo added a further 80 for the fourth wicket before Chadeon Raymond got rid of the West Indies white-ball batter.
However, all-rounder Govia—who returned to the club this season from the then Central Sports—went on to get an unbeaten 100 (four fours, five sixes) before the declaration. Govia got more in his knock than Victoria managed in their second innings, as Red Force off-spinner Bryan Charles (eight for 26) finished them off almost single-handedly for 66.
