For a moment that read like Harsha Bhogle!

But, I’m well aware of who she’s!

Their names kinda have the same ring to it, is what I meant.

Too poppy for me. Her sister Lata Mangeshkar was a magnificent singer. She passed away three or four years ago. The only female international singers I can compare her two are Umm Khulthum of Egypt and Fairouz of Lebanon. I would mention Oumou Sangare of Mali and Mercedes Sosa of Argentina, but their music is very social/political, which the above three barely, if ever leant into. In terms of pure vocal power though, all five are in the same bracket

Even though I am of Indian descent, I must confess I only have a superficial knowledge of Indian music. I do remember my siblings playing those large 78?? records all day long.

I did read that when Lata performed at the Royal Albert Hall in England she did a rendition of one of her songs without musical accompaniment and the consensus was that that rendition was superior than when she did with the Orchestra.
